Good find. Never imagined anything like this. Just imagine what would have happened if Soviet Union went the Chinese way. Producing consumer goods. Becoming an economic and remaining a military and political superpower. Who would be able to stop it?
The US and the petrodollar. There is no beating a fake currency.
Afghanistan certainly began the Soviet downfall, with Berezinski's super duper "fund extremists from Pakistan" plan... but it was the establishment of the petrodollar that allowed the US' access to unlimited funds, meaning they could outspend the USSR exponentially. Classic case of fake it 'til you make it. The US mistake was not realising that they'd doomed themselves in the process, a phantom dollar requires a phantom war.
Absolutely. No-one ever lasted forever. Especially not based on false foundations. I gotta give to them, thou. They really know how to make something out of nothing. Printing those green papers and buying real things for it. Not many countries managed to pull it off.

There were also East German heavy utility vehicles that were used in that war. The World was indeed changing back then.
