indie game dev ? what is that anyway ?? When are you indie and when not ? I love coding, what else can I say... I re-invent the wheel whenever I can, why not? It's more fun that way. I don't have a kickstarter, and I don't promise anything, all I want to do is code an get better at it, and Dungeon Colony is my dream-game-vessel for that quest. Join me!

Yes, that's correct. I added a new switch to turn Rooms on/off. I need to update the quests in the Sandbox mode to include the rooms. It will take me some extra time to do so, so for now I've turned them off in sandbox mode until that's finished.

Yes, yes yes, yes and not yet :-P... Actually a lot of that is already built. So you can craft various items using the resources collected by your minions. There is a crafting bench where you can craft these items. The Dungeon Master can research new crafting recipes that you can later build. There is a furnace where you can transform raw resources into other building materials (e.g. sand to glas bottles, iron ore to metal rods and steel. The Steel can be used for new traps, reinforced doors and chests (and weapons in the future). There is a alchemist table where you can make potions that depend on resources like mushrooms that you can collect. Enemies that come raid the dungeon drop loot such as food, gold and other items.

The only thing that isn't in the game that you mention is crafting based on skill or material type. This is something i'm going to add down the line, when the engine is more robust.

update: I uploaded version (0.2.8.5) which now uses a rectangular area to draw the room, instead of the pen-like tool.

Yes, they will each have their own inventory inside their room. For now, that means that they store their gold there. Later I will give them the ability to store other belongings.

Thank You SeriousToni for your feedback! I definitively like the idea of drawing a rectangle or even automatically filling all tiles of a room type. The first one is much easier than the second, so I'm probably going to add that first.

And yes, if hovering over a room becomes too annoying, I'll change that if needed.

(The cat isn't as tiny as she was on the picture, but she is still adorable ;)

Thanks... I'm done with phase 1 of the rooms. Next I'll improve the dungeon economy (which needed the rooms to be done first)

Thanks! .. I'm going to fine tune the editor for 'painting' tree so that it's easier to create woods like that. I also want to improve the tree-growing algorithm and reduce the boundaries, so that trees can grow closer to each other. Ahh I have a lot of things I will add to trees and other plants in time =)

Yea, I'm still balancing it out, but crafting will remain like that for the most part, cause that will allow you to make nifty unique items eventually.

You can place lights freely anywhere you want in the dungeon. You can place torches on walls or camp fires/firebowls on the ground. =)

Yea, I'm planning on adding this kind of game mode. You build your dungeon but can also train creatures that can invade other players dungeons.

Hey RTS fans,

While Dungeon Colony features some tower defense mechanics, I decided to finally change it's official genre to Real Time Strategy. My current development activities allow levels that don't include enemy waves and for that reason the game required to be re-categorized. The sanbox mode will remain the most similar game type to the tower defense genre, so if you fancy that kind of game mode, give it a shot.

Hi... Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. Got some follow up questions/answers for you:

The heads of the minions in the gui: Do you mean like a short-cut ? so that you can click on it (the shortcut) and them have the map center around the unit you selected ? One of my tasks is actually to allow the player to store units in the numbers 0-9, like most RTS allow you to do.

Boars: Yes, I shall add a bit more at start up. FYI, over time, boars do reproduce.

Workbench: You can have a Minion build a workbench in his own inventory. Make the minion collect a few wood (best harvest a large tree). Then open the minion's inventory (select the minion and click on the bag button on the right hand side). From there, craft the workbench as usual.

As for the rest, I have noted your suggestions and weigh those along with other feedback. If enough testers suggest the same thing I will change it.

THANK YOU!

You have to make sure the Master isn't hungry or out of stamina. And you need to select a study item from the list, after selecting the study. The study shouldn't be too close to a wall/object, it may obstruct the master from reaching it... that's something I'll fix. ;)

Thanks =). I am thinking of integrating them more into the walls, so that they don't seem 'out of place'.

Thanks for the comments =):

1. The master is too wise to perform actions that minions can perform ;). But besides fighting, he can also read and discover new crafting recipes using the 'Study' (check the crafting blueprint button). And he can also summon new minions if you have less than 3 left. I am planning on a new range of unique skills for the master in future.
2. Yes, you can place items that the minions carry on the ground. Open the inventory by selecting the minion and clicking on the bag button on the right hand side. Then chose the items to place on the floor. Most items can be placed on the ground. I did have them default drop item to the ground a while ago, but that created more headaches than not.
3. There are a couple of hints to see if a minion can't place items into inventories. A. the minion will display a note to the screen and B. the minion will walk very slow since the carrying capacity is maxed out.
4. The boars logic isn't quite done yet; hmm maybe your boars got stuck in a forest somewhere. At the moment, if there are less boars than a certain number, a new one will be added to a random outside position.
