But then it wouldn't work, it will only be able to shoot up/down/forward/backwards and the side it is on if it was real, Basicly a blind-spot. So being on top would make more sense then being on the side.

Counter-weight can been seen. so it has to be a counter-weight (its the opposite side of the gun, its that armor peice looking thing.)
