Unusual helmet you’ve got there. At first glance it looks like a model 1915 Metalhelme for Prussian Jäger zu Pferde regiments 1 to 7 (8 to 13 had Dragoon leather Pickelhaube, later Kürassier helmets) but with the distinctive front visor of a Kürassier helmet. The spike is missing because it’s a wartime model with detachable spike (spikes were ordered removed on campaign in September 1915).
Only Kürassier, Jäger zu Pferde and Stabsordonnanz had metal helmets with lobster tails (instead of the smaller boiled leather Pickelhaube of other troops). Kürassier helmets were polished instead of painted black and had a leaf-shaped spike base, so it’s not one of them.
Too bad it’s missing the state cockades and the detachable spike.
And btw, all German cavalry did have spikes on their helmets, except uhlans (who wore a Czapka) and hussars (who wore a busby).
well thanks pal. my mistake on that part.
I learn a little every day
and this is good to know. all i knew was it was a helm from my family and it was german

Calvary they don't have spikes on there's. its an odd group of helms. only 2 regiments had these
