So my friend Romulo, whom currently is building his own 3d engine(Which I might add is awesome, physics deferred lighting, md5 support, and more) and I have started on a top down shooter like SmashTV and the like. It's about a robot who's been thrown back in time and has to fight dinosaurs. We are currently working on the design and concepts. We don't live close, actually on different continents but we have been able to collaborate on drawing with OpenCanvas. It's been great being able to draw together to flesh out ideas.
