Wayward

Game review

[Beta 2.5.7]

Great Fusion of Complex Roguelike and Survival gameplay.

Very challenging with a deep crafting system thanks to which things that are bread and butter in other games feel like an accomplishment here.

I would highly recommend this game to fans of survival and roguelike games.

The only gripe I personally have with the game is the inventory management which get's very old, very fast, I really wish the items stacked in some way.

Mass Effect 3

Game review

The best game in the trilogy as far as pure gameplay and mechanics go, nearly all issues I had with the gameplay in other two games have disappeared in this one and it's generally the most enjoyable one for me to replay.

The story is also great, a solid continuation of what previous entries were building up to.

Characters and their interactions are very believable, going through all 3 games you can really grow attached to your squadmates. It's a shame many squad mates from previous game cannot join the party here if they survived. Most NPCs are also written very well.

I have never seen the non Extended Cut endings as I got the game after it came out so I missed the drama but despite that I find that the endings are still... underwhelming and out of all 3 I don't really like any.

A note on DLCs: I have them all, they're mostly fine but hardly truly necessary, Leviathan and From Ashes do provide some expanded universe lore but that's about it really. Citadel DLC I don't know why that exists, it's so tonally off from the rest of the game that I came to truly despise it.

Overthinked DooM^3 (Realistic Mod)

Mod review

Overthinked Doom is one of the best gameplay overhaul mods available.

It achieves it's goal of making Doom 3 more of a survival horror/tactical FPS game.

With the new, much more realistic gunplay and severe limitation on the amount of ammo the player can carry, planning and tactics play a much bigger role in the game.

Every weapon has it's pros and cons and each is useful in different situations, selecting the right gun for the right enemy can save the player a lot of ammo.

Ammunition is scarce, every pickup matters and there absolutely will be situations where you run out of ammo on two or more of your weapons, forcing you to improvise.

The mod is overall very well balanced but the game does become much, much more difficult than vanilla, which for me is great.

TL;DR

Awesome mod, if you like realism and high difficulty, download and play now.

Cube 2

Engine review

This engine is really something special, I've seen some incredible things done with it. It has a simple premise but it is so much more. It allows for both things that are incredibly simple but fun and things that are amazingly complex.

Games that run on it perform great, at least I've never had any problems even on my older PC that could barely run most games Sauerbraten for example ran at very stable 45+ FPS.

Hitman: Blood Money

Game review

This is definitely the best Hitman game ever released, I've played them all but it's Blood Money that kept me glued to the screen for weeks.

The graphics are pretty good, sound effects pleasing and music just plain amazing, I've got the soundtrack and really like to listen to it.

Every mission is different and everything is allowed, you can do it Silent Assassin style and eliminate your targets by making it look like an accident or go in guns blazing and kill everyone you see. It's fun to read the newspaper afterwards.

The weapons are very detailed, especially the agency supplied ones with lots of customization options everyone can get exactly the kind of weapon they need to get the job done whether it's a quiet sniper rifle or super loud and powerful shotgun.

I have not yet played Absolution but this game set set the standard very high.
It definitely is my favorite Hitman game to date and I don't think that will change, everything I didn't like in it's predecessors is gone and things I wanted to see are in.

My only regret? I wish there were more missions, not that the game is short, it's long enough with extreme replay value, every mission is just as fun whether you're completing it for the first or hundredth time.

Resident Evil 3

Game review

I heard some people say this is where series turned for the worse, to me it's the best Resident Evil game. Mostly thanks to titular Nemesis. You never know when is he going to appear and he does exactly when he should, when you don't expect him at all.

The zombies and enemies are great and while the graphics age quickly and visibly the replayability doesn't decrease, there aren't too many locations where you can feel safe and you constantly feel afraid of what's around the corner.

Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Game review

Resident Evil 4 does not feel like a resident evil game at all and if you ask me, it's where the series started going down the slope.

The father of all the godawful "press X to not die" the QTE feature is overused and maybe makes sense for a PS game but I played the godawful PC port and boy did that suck.

No mouse support, why it had no mouse support? Do we have analogs on keyboards? No. Would that make the game too easy? I don't think so. No options menu, was there a reason to not have one? The default keymapping is just terrifyingly bad and when you have to edit config files to change something, that's where something is wrong.

BUT I've recently played through it with a PS3 controller and managed to finally appreciate the game a little more, it doesn't feel like survival horror anymore but as an action game it's good enough.

To sum it all up the game is decent by itself, not so much when compared to where it came from.

Also, the rating for the PC port is 2/10 because it is functional but it's the worst PC port I have seen in my life, it feels like you're running the game on a PS2 Emulator, there is nothing PC about it.

Thief: The Dark Project

Game review

The first really good stealth game set up in a really dark but amazing world. Every mission brings something new to the gameplay and thanks to how many ways there are to accomplish your goal the replayability is extreme.

While the graphics certainly aged somewhat they still look decent enough and the amazing mappers community have created enough missions for this game to keep all Thiefs occupied for a few months.
