Cleaners Adventures

Mod review

A terrible mod that makes no sense as to how it got such a high score.

The premise sounds nice, you're a "Cleaner" who is forced to survive, but...
You must be very stupid because you're incapable of using any type of armour, not even Security Guard Vest, given the circumstances it would make sense to see non-security also use it, wouldn't it? But no, the game is made to be played without an armour, which is a big mistake because...

The gameplay balance is bad. You will not find ammo often, that is fine, it makes you use the Crowbar more often than spread out ammunition, but it doesn't add up on the fact that there are very little medkits lying around.

You will face, guess who? Headcrabs, that's right. Any room you get into, expect more than 3 headcrabs ready to jump at you. It just gets so boring fast.

There is a little bit of exploration, but...If you do that, you'll waste your time, there are no gains/rewards for anything, healing, item, ammo, NOTHING. The best you will get is a Vortigaunt teleporting behind you.

Oh and let us get to the best; THE VENTS.
This mod LOVES vents. I want to emphasize how much the mod L O V E S vents; just imagine that every level there is more than 3 vent "puzzles" about. That is how it is.
Literally you spend more time going through vents, killing boring annoying headcrabs, than actually playing any of the maps in this game.

In regards to maps, Old Mesa had a great premise, it's an abandoned sector of Black Mesa, specifically a warehouse of sorts, but...Yes, you go through vents more than the map. The map itself is bad, it's just linear, empty spaces.

The new models? Horrid, especially the SPAS. The SPAS is more like ShitPAS because it literally looks like it was used in a clogged toilet.

I could not finish this mod, I reached to the Military Grunts, I had no patience at all to continue and I have no doubt the latter will be mad.
Terrible mod, avoid it at all costs or play it very last if you're into "mod played collections" or something.

Event Horizon

Mod review

If you take a look, you'll see a lot of fantastically named accounts talk about how amazing this mod is and give it a 10.
If you take a look at their accounts, you'll see they're all banned.

The author made various accounts just to vote his own mission 10.

Dark Whispers

Mod review

Although I agree with the rest of the reviewers giving a lower rank, I can't but feel respect at the dedication of the author.

Yes, it has bad English, but I have seen much, much worse, even from other fellow English custom mission makers, so I don't want to judge harshly on that regard.

In regard to the monster, it's an asset most of you will be familiar by now, especially in "Amadeus".
But one good thing about it is that, despite the AI arguably being stupid, it was used very well.

The story itself is rather bad, but I say again: I have seen much worse.

Also, as everyone else says, it is indeed short, I'd say that's actually a bonus since I am busy these days but I want to play something fast. A quick scary story is fun! However, I don't want to add that to the rating, short and long is subjective.

The way the story progresses is rather fun, I do like how there are "forced" mini-cutscenes, at first I thought it would be a problem, but then I realized they were very well-made.

Overall, I'd say, it is a very good short story despite all those flaws, you should give it a try, just don't expect it to be long or "amazing" like Amadeus.

On another note, which I should add because I said it so in the beginning, this author seems to be very dedicated that he even made a FORUM for it right here in Moddb, I don't think I have ever seen that in any other Amnesia mod.
Kudos to the author for his dedication!

Doom 3 Enhanced Edition - D3EE

Mod review

It's basically a "Starter Pack", with so many QOL that you don't know if it will end one day, so absolutely worth it if this is your first time playing Doom 3 and you're looking for small mods.

Blood: Trauma Therapy

Mod review

This is a great mod, without a doubt. It has its flaws, but the amazing level design sometimes steps it up anyway.

The problems I had is that the enemy placement was sometimes too much, specifically with the Phantoms themselves, but I think worst offender is the Gargoyle and the Dogs. They are the worst, nothing appealing about them.

And yet, detail on the levels were amazing, beating even the original levels of Blood and Redneck Rampage.
The pacing was good, there were only 3 moments where I got stuck, one of them which is the worst, but I digress since I had it worse in original Blood itself.

The Way Of Ira for Blood

Mod review

Sadly, I didn't like it so much.

The level design was okay, but I felt like the originals' were much more detailed in comparison to.
There is barely any ambient sound in any of the levels, it's so silent, it's like you're forced to enjoy the levels with the set of music, well I don't.

The way you find the secrets is either very easy or just useless since you don't really get some cool stuff with it.

The lore and plot itself, it's "okay", I like it only because I get to save a cute little cat, but other than that it makes no sense.

Without a doubt, it is worth playing, but don't expect anything amazing like RATM or NHIS has.
I enjoyed the Blood campaign way more than this and I was hoping to at least be more amazed by having that in mind, but sadly no.

A Late Night Drink: The Last Sip

Mod review

While I truly hate the original because of how cliche it actually is, this one is absurdly good. Reaching perfection.

The author finally made it properly scary, it may have a jumpscare or two but at least it's way more efficient than in the original (Honestly, I would argue these aren't even jumpscares but proper scares).

My favourite is, and this despite not being an original idea, is how he used Silent Hills' demo as inspiration for one part of the nightmare. The Demon in there? Truly expertly made, never expected it anywhere else.

By the way, the first scare? I was amazed, yet another great job.

My only gripes are...
MacLeod's songs were used much better now, but they weren't timed well yet.
Environment, specifically the lighting, could have used more work. Sometimes there's some kind of faked fullbright.
And the story still has some 'bad cheese', but compared to the original, it's incredibly subtle.

Overall, the author truly outdid himself and he says this is 'worked less' than the original. His ***!
Great job, please keep doing just as good while still improving, may your 3rd chapter be better or just as good, make no mistakes you did on the first one.

A Late Night Drink

Mod review

The only positive about this is the hallucinations, from the start and the "Confusion" period, they were amazingly made.

Everything else...The most boring generic story, terrible environment, boring protagonist.

There are no jumpscares, just "startles", but if you think it makes a good scare then you're right about it, at least for this game.

Besides, adding an absolutely frustrating keyhunt period in the middle of the map, which was already boring enough, too much dialogue yet no voice acting, using 'hydrophobia' as an actual fear...

This map really gets way too much positive attention for the wrong reasons, it's terrible.

Delightful Decay

Mod review

Terrible.

Boring first impression with two uses of unexpected jumpscares.

Terrible start where I have to pretty much keyhunt and then doorhunt.

Environment is so bad, it feels empty yet there are many attempts at making it not feel empty, crappy use of colour, terrible lighting, reused assets (naked dead guy) that don't fit in the setting at all.

Ridiculous story that can't get me thrilled whatsoever. North, South, American Civil War, The Elite? Can you use ever more generic terms?

Re-used monsters, these ones are the Piggies from Amnesia 2 which aren't at all scary.

Only good thing is the start (because you play as somebody else who also dies and then you take 'possession' of someone else's body) and the voice acting, which was a bit monotonous at parts but compared to many other Amnesia CSs, it's rather top-notch.

I only recommend this if you're so bored, got no other Amnesia game to play and the like.

By the way, the mod is 3.8GB big, pretty much a huge download for nothing.

Hunting Ground - Origin

Mod review

Terrible voice acting (although so bad it's hilarious) combined with terrible spelling and grammar, which wouldn't be a big problem if it wasn't for the fact there has to be a lore...Which is bad.

There's this idea that you're not alone, your wife is with you, but all she does is leave notes that are worth one page of a DIARY. How does she have time to write all this, so fast, so easily?

It is also linear, not a big problem, I don't mind linear stories, except I always have a feeling I left something out...
And I did. The lantern. You can get it as soon as you're in the basement, I think, but good luck if you don't.

Besides, how absurd is it to have a monster that talks but not for humour, for seriousness?

Did I mention the level design and story is cliche as hell?
I was only genuinely scared once and I consider it a good scare, it's from the very beginning, you will see.

I only recommend this if you're so bored you got nothing else to do or if you want to take a laugh at the bad story and voice acting or...Well, anything to do to waste your precious time.

In short: It's not a terrible campaign, it's below-average.
