So you can see the main screen but when you click on buttons nothing happens?
Try hitting the 'Login' button, then use ctrl+f8 to bring open the console and see what it says there.

Could you provide a little more info? Operating system?
If you are using linux, please check /home/username/.savage2/game/console.log
on windows it is My Documents/Savage 2 - A tortured Soul/game/console.log
If you pastebin that file, I'll have a look.
It has a rating of 9, which is pretty good, and it has a very unique style. The main thing to remember when you start playing is that it isn't a shooter though there are elements of that. It is a melee game. You won't do very well if you just try and use guns/range weapons.
Can you provide a little more information on our system?
It worked fine for me. You can perhaps avoid some of the library path issues by running: savage2_update.bin --update-runpath
None of the money that goes to this game goes to the development. Those of us that are working on the game do it for free in our spare time. We are working on some new content to freshen up the game.
This is due to linux kernel/ATI driver compatibility issues. See Forums.savage2.com help and technical support section.
It is not directly supported by S2Games. We fix what we can when we can. The best place to report bugs and glitches is the Savage 2 forums (http://forums.savage2.com). Please do report them. It is highly likely we already know about them, but it can't hurt to get more reports. Also, we want to hear from more Desura users about bugs or glitches that might be related to the releases there.
you need: set host_drawFPS 1
You don't have to put that in startup.cfg. You can just open the console (ctrl+f8) and type that in. If you want it to be saved to startup.cfg use: setsave host_drawFPS 1
If I am not mistaken, there were compatibility issues with new versions of libstdc++.so. I don't know exactly what those were, but we are in the process of re-evaluating all of the distributed libraries to get the best possible versions.
If anyone is having problems getting the game to run, please leave a comment here, post in the forums, or send me a PM. I'll be glad to help you out.
We can figure it out for you. I'll send you a PM.
This game is a multiplayer combination of RTS and first person. The game tracks stats for both play modes.
The game is ~ 1 GB in size.
What is broken with the steam version?
We would love to get more feedback from Desura users about the Savage 2 experience. Please post your thoughts in the forum section.
Make sure you check out the tutorial section of the game and watch the video tutorial.
If you cannot type an '@' symbol in for your email address when creating an account, you can circumvent the problem by typing it in another window, copying it, and pasting it into the email field.
Right click on Savage 2 in desura -> properties and add: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=".":./game":"$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Would be best so that the newest updates will work correctly.
Check the Forum section. You may have to an additional run parameter for the linux distributions.
