No no, Reboot isn't "for Portal 2, but with all portal one's stuff", it is the original mod re-contextualised into a Portal 2 mod. I always intended to change the mechanics to Portal 2 mechanics. If you want high energy pellets, you can make a mod of this mod and put them in yourself ;)

Yea, I left out the dialogue cause it was unchanged from the original and some of the lines no longer made sense in the context of the new puzzle elements.
If you want to re-enable them, they still exist in the game files, you'd just need to move them out of the 'lock' folder in the mod files

Thanks, I'm really glad you enjoyed it :D

That's an interesting glitch I haven't heard of before (the memory leak thing) Something I do know though, is portal 2 mods seem to also download workshop maps if you are subscribed to them for portal 2 (and for me, that large amount of downloading would cause my portal 2 and any mod I play to crash in the first 5-10 minutes) Could be related but I'm not sure haha

Anyway, thanks again, I appreciate the kind words <3

Yea, even though it's not exactly what I wanted it to be, it's really good to just get something out there for people to try :D

Na, it will forever be 0.9 sadly
That being said, people are welcome now to take up the mantle if they want to.
One developer has already started their own "Portal Unity 2" project, which I think is really cool :)

Thank you MvDA-
Hearing all that really put a smile on my face (I needed that today haha)
Yea, I totally agree, it's always sad when projects just disappear after so much development goes into them.
(I've always said to myself, even if I don't always achieve exactly what I wanted to with a project, I'm always proud when I can release 'something'. If it brings joy to anyone, then the project was a success in my mind)

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D
The mod is a remake of a portal 1 mod from back in the day, so I'm glad to hear that I managed to maintain that classic portal 1 feel :P

Yea, I'm working on the sound balances to make the dialogue, effects, and music work well together
(I want to change the voice line so I wasn't worried about it being really quiet in the video haha) (if I'd given myself more time to make the teaser I would have removed it for the video) ;)
Thanks for the feedback :D

This screenshot was actually taken before I got the rain working in the map ;)
(portal 2 doesn't have native 'rain' functions like portal 1)

Yea, one of the big reasons I wanted to remake the levels in portal 2, nicer funnels and faith plates haha (both of which made this level tricky)

Yea, there are some new additions to this map, one of which is hidden to the right of the chamber (and of course, p2 funnel and indicator lights lining the walls, heheh)

Not dead ;P
Just working to try and complete the ending sections and testing what has already been completed.

I'm not sure if everyone realises but I'm working solo on the reboot, so progress is going to be kinda slow

I have decided to try my hardest to go with option B, but if I cant get everything done I may have to release what I can.

Voice acting is one of the things that I wasn't sure if I would have time to change.
If I cant find someone to voice her (or the time to actually record it with them) then I will keep them the same.

I think I still have the original unedited voice lines so I might be able to try and clean them up a bit and re-add them.
Also, subtitles is definitely going to be in the mod when I release it, whether I rerecord the voices or not ;)

If you go to the original mod page, I mentioned that you need all the patches for it to run properly now.
As of a few years back, the source engine changed slightly and as of that update, you need to have patch 2 of Portal Unity for it to run.

If I have time soon, I will upload a 'full' version that contains the updates so people only have to download one thing but until then, the mod and the two updates are needed for it to run ;)

The intention I was going for with the acid was to make it look unappealing. This is actually a Portal 2 acid texture, it was the texture that looked best of all the standard Portal 2 acid textures.
A problem I always had with the Portal: Unity acid was that it looked too dull and not like a hazard.

I actually quite like how the acid 'pops' with regards to the surroundings and how it is clearly a hazard.

That being said, if I do come across a texture that I think better achieves this end, I will go with it ;)

I don't fully understand what you mean but I'm assuming... no?

This is going to be the Portal: Unity you remember, but with fresher (ie: Portal 2) Textures, and less buggy mechanics.

The chambers are mostly the same as the original Portal: Unity ones but some have been reworked slightly (mostly energy ball sections and 'areas I disliked' sections, lol)

Hope that clears it up a little ;)

Thank you!
As for your question, that is the intention ;)
I was never really very happy with the escape section of the original mod and so have been trying to make something more interesting, visually and mechanically. When I was working on it a while ago, back when I finished the test chambers, I was having a hard time 'realising' what I wanted the escape section to look like.
I have ideas in my head but, at least at the time, I couldn't make them work how I wanted them to.
Now that I am aiming for a more fleshed out mod (as opposed to the 'map pack' I was planning back then) I may just be able to realise the escape sections I want.

That being said, I would still like to avoid over-hyping that part of the mod, as I still have a ways to go before it will be finished.
I would like to avoid the kind of situation that Half-Life 3 and Black Mesa have found themselves where everyone got so hyped over the last section of the game that no-one could possibly be happy with the final result.

But we'll see ;)

Also, I'm planning a trailer of the mod so far. So expect that posted here as well as on my YouTube channel ;P

What I will say is that 85-90% of the actual maps/puzzles are the same. I will admit though that there are a couple of maps that have essentially been completely remade from the ground up (usually because I didn't like the original).
It will come down to personal preference as to which ones you prefer in the end.

As for the assets (textures mostly), they are all portal 2 variants where possible.
While I liked the look of our original mod, we were, to some degree, aiming to make our mod look like the 'new' looking areas in the portal 2 trailers for the most part.
I have mostly taken on the textures used in those areas of Portal 2 to keep the look of the reboot as similar to the original as possible while also looking higher quality than our original textures.

Lighting has also dramatically changed but I think that's for the best in most cases (real light sources this time, instead of magical light emission from the middle of the rooms, haha)

I do hope you enjoy the reboot, but it's okay to prefer the original ;)

(There are many remakes out there for games where I prefer the original lol)

I'm starting to think this way as well.
I think I'll arrange a teaser trailer and just try my best to work through the remaining maps etc.

Aww, thank you so much. That means so much to me :)
I fully intended to complete the Portal 2 remake, but other things in my life just took over, unfortunately.
I'd love to go back to it and finish off the remake but nowadays I just don't have the time. Maybe if I find myself with some free time, I may just revisit it and see if I can at least polish off what is already done and get it out there.
Thanks again, this made my day ;)

Yep, if you go into the mod directory->resource->icon there are a couple of .tga files that steam uses for ui icons, you can grab them from there ;)

I actually haven't had a chance to see if it works on mac myself. If it works the same then maybe your missing the patches which you need to install manually (Desura can't do it automatically)

The startup_loading.vtf issue was resolved in the steampipe patch, if you installed that patch correctly and it still doesn't work then I'm not sure what I can do as I have tested the mod (with all patches) on multiple computers and have no problems running it.
