This could be something pretty creepy in a horror game (minus the balls ofcourse) I mean it is unknown, and makes little sense, and when something doesnt really make sense it freaks people out, much like john carpenters "the thing"...
Should take out the balls and see if you can give it some texture and animation, see how freaky it really can be?
