Each of those bolt heads was about 80 polys (I never really though that through.) I baked them into the normals map, and boom there went 80 polys * 120 bolts = 9600 polys.
Like what? A pink camo paint job. :D
Absolutely nothing!!! If some mod wants it... talk to me and I might hook you up with the mesh.
There is actually room there, you just can't see it from this angle.
Don't worry I will be reworking a low-poly version soon. Then just baking a normals map from this one.
I used Blender. Everything is just a model set to render only the wire-frame + some compositor work.
About the handle spacing problem: This was only the second revision of the concept. I am currently working on rev. 3. (where that and other problems are going to be taken care of.) Keep a look out, as it will be up in a few days.
