Hi,
Most of my work experience consists of freelance work. Which is a technical employee who works for free, but for the purpose to build a resume'/portfolio for themselves to help gain a career or a very high paying job.

3D artists/animators, ect. can make as much as about $65-150,000 grand a year. Now usually the salary will start off well but depends mostly on the companies you work for. Like with GSC gameworld and the game Stalker. Employee's weren't making much due to the CEO of the company who only payed staff basically $200.00 a month. Which is rediculous on it's own.

Now well known "Gaming companies", not "publishers" will say when their hiring that they offer a "High salary". Will pay their employee's a lot of money. But usually as it is, it depends on their position as an employee developer of the project. Programmers make the most money out of any of the given fields to do game development in, because they do the most painful work. That allows no breaks, as for 3D/animators and 2D texture artists breaks, and able to build portolios, ect.

Right now i'm working for Ironoak Studios on a new upcoming "not-yet announced" next-gen FPS title. Meanwhile certian projects you can get paid like myself $20.00 per hour or more, maybe less. Depends on your position as regular artist, Art lead, or director of the art, or founder, ect.

Hope this helps out ^^
