Nah, that's one of the first things I tried.
But two things:
-It actually does launch in classic mode, but obviously suffers from some severe performance issues
-I tried the game on my old work laptop with an integrated GPU and there the game actually works in Polymost. I just tossed the folder via my network to the laptop's temp folder and launched it, so the contents are exactly the same.

Yes, it's from the log file. I even tried to disable the splash screens via preload.con but it still crashes.

Crashes immediately after the second splash screen. There's nothing terribly useful in the txt file:

Great job! Hadn't really played a major Half-Life 1 single-player mod in a long time but this was a good reason to dust off the game. The mod felt both classic and fresh at the same time, and I enjoyed the tie-ins with Half-Life 2. Good job on the scripted sequences and level design as well. (The last few maps with their combat-heavy outdoor segments were surprisingly taxing on my framerate though; didn't expect a GoldSrc game to give me such trouble in this day and age.) Took me exactly two hours to finish.

Mikko_Sandt - - 116 comments @ DXN - Deus Ex: Nihilum

Took a while to get around to actually playing the mod, but I finally did. Enjoyed Nihilum quite a bit; it felt like an official expansion. Fantastic soundtrack as well; sounded like something that could have been part of the original game (although I did suffer a bit from the fact that it was quite loud even on the lowest volume level). I enjoyed the clean-but-detailed look of the maps and appreciated their variety. Voice acting was a bit so-so with a few actors taking their sweet time to deliver a few lines, but there were a few better ones there as well (like Lana). My only complaints would really concern some of the base-game mechanics (the heavily RPG-based shooting mechanics, pitiful melee combat, ladders, etc.), but these are not your fault. Took me about 7 hours according to the in-game clock.

The path is correct and the dll files are there.

In any case, I was able to get the music by running the executable as an admin, so that at least gets around the issue for now!

Any ideas as to why I'm not hearing any music? The directory for music is there along with all the files, but the game is totally silent on that front. When I check the Data Directories thingie, it only shows Maps, Sounds, System and Textures. The .ini file points to the correct path.

That's a stupid comparison. The 2001 version was never released. Our mod is a finished product. We may update it at some point or we may not.

It's not in development hell since it was never in development in the first place. This news update (which I opposed) served no other purpose but to attract votes for the Mod of the Year contest. To be sure, we did have stuff PLANNED for a small update (mostly technical fixes) and good IDEAS, sketches and even some finished art for a POTENTIAL bigger update but we were never actively working on new maps or anything like that. The only thing here that's in development hell is Gambini's HL2 mod:)

Did you ever consider why people make videos of it? That's like saying FNAF is popular only because people make videos of it. It goes both ways: Good, popular games make good Let's Play videos and those videos in turn help market the game.

It's not in active development at the moment. Gambini still needs to finish his HL2 mod which has been in development for years. I just finished my contribution to the AMC TC 2 (which you can check out here: Moddb.com). There may be a smaller update (bug fixes & such) at some point though.

I have no plans to update the mod even though there are some minor things about it that annoy me. So, an update is extremely unlikely but never say never. I wouldn't touch the ending, however, because it's perfect as it is.

Nice mod, really loved the sense of desolation. Mapping was good too with refreshing variety between outdoor and indoor segments. The whole thing felt polished too.

Thanks, that worked for me.

The mod is not bad but has some annoyances such as those insta-hit enemies and I wasn't very fond of the needless key fetching in the Western themed limbo map. The mod could have used more polishing too. All in all, good effort and I don't regret playing it.

First of all Polymer suffers from atrocious performance. Even Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 are easier on your computer than Polymer - and I'm afraid it's not even close. Then it has limitations with respect to draw distance, which would be a big problem with the mod's maps, many of which have huge outdoor areas. Then there's the fact that voxels are not supported, among with several other issues.

If you cannot see the file extension then just look for a file named "DNF" that looks kinda like an executable (in Win7 the icon has two cogs).
