I'm a gaming and modding/development enthusiast. I am currently studying Game Design in Berlin, Germany and in my free time i'm working on different side-projects - and mods of course. I finished an apprenticeship in movie postproduction (Editing, mixing, delivery)before applying for the game-design program, and I'm eager to continue working in both fields.

Hey thanks for your feedback! It's all good, I am used to constructive feedback and I actually study game design.

Last time i worked on the mod is really many years ago and there was no way to really change the mapping of textures in the levels without working in GTK Radiant and then painstakingly recompiling the levels, so i had to up the texture resolution and create textures painstakingly in photoshop and make them seem as seamless as BY HAND haha. I spent hours on this mod because I didn't know how to recompile the levels (also didn't have that much free time) or include new speculars and edit the shaders to include them, where no speculars were present. Also I am not sure if baking the light in the level editor of the quake-engine was actually possible. As far as I was concerned this simple replacing of textures was really the best and only way to do it at the time (2015, my god the time has passefd...) but now the modders over at JK Hub have found ways to use a new renderer for Jedi academy which supports bumpmapping and even parallax mapping. It's still complicated to edit the levels to include those new shaders on objects and takes A LOT of time, but that's something I will look into - though my time is and always was very limited since I work on a lot of different projects.
Also no worries, I am very familiar with modern texture creation workflows, as it's one of my favourite things since when I first worked on this mod :)

One of the best tools in my opinion is Substance Creator/Designer btw.

Anyway thanks again for the feedback and good luck to you too!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Yes I admit that some replacements back in the day didn't turn out as great as i wanted them to be, though a lot of things have changed since i last actively worked on the mod, and I'm hoping to find some time soon to rethink my approach and also "maybe" come up with real rendering improvements.

Anyway, feedback always appreciated!

What you are referring to is anti-aliasing which has nothing to do with my mod, since it merely changes texture. To get smooth edges you have to change setting in your video driver of your graphics card ;)

Can you specify your problem a bit further? Did you use 7zip to unzip? Did you extract the files and then copy them into the gamedata/base/ of your Jedi Academy Install?

I'm not exactly sure which mod that is but I know that some folks are implementing a new rendere called rend2 into the openJK project which, when finished, will allow pbr shading, that is parallax mapping, normal maps and metalness. This will probably still take alot of time but I am looking forward to it and my mod will then be improved to support all that.

Glad you like it, I was and am very busy in RL, that's the reason why there was no update for such a long time but this project is not dead ;)

Hey @NumberWan, no mostly the environment textures did not have a shader attached anyway, so it would be quite difficult for me to create those (metal and glowing elements are the exception of course). Theres a modding project going on though which uses a differetn renderer (rend2), which will also support bump maps and parallax mapping - now that will be awesome when it's realeased and working because then I can take this mod to a completely new level ;)

Hey, did you correctly extract the .zip files? they have to be extracted before they can be recognized by the game - you should get a .pk3 after extraction and put that in the base directory. If that is not the problem, chack if you have other texture mods which maybe override the mod.
Let me know if it worked ;)

Mr.Zz - - 133 comments @ Brutal Nature releases version 0.55!

Hey guys, this looks like an interesting project, especially building everything from scratch - but there's one thing I noticed: on the first screenshot of the news-post the scale of the environment textures (expecially the grass and daisies) seem a bit too big in comparison to the person. maybe that's an easy fix - just to rescale things a bit. This would improve realism quite some bit ;)

Besides that things look very interesting! Keep up your work!

Cheers!

Hey, thanks! Well currently this project is strictly focusing on textures but there are plans with a fellow modder to improve map objects and weapons in the future, maybe even player models. We'll see ;)

Hi, I'm sorry I never heard of this error before - can you give me more details? which level did this error occur in, what sort of graphicscard do you have and do play on a 32 or 64 bit system?
Cheers!

Hey ZikShadow, thanks for the great post, these are exactly the solutions I had planned to include. The next release (very likely next month) will come in two version, "Full" and "Lite". The "Lite" version will incorporate those fixes aswell a higher compression for all textures. The "Full" version will retain the huge sizes for those environment textures aswell as visually lossless compression settings for best quality.
Also a single .pk3 will be released with only the 4096x4096 fixes, for those who wan't the better compression as in the "Full" version.
Cheers!
