This was once fertile land...
Then Wal-Mart came and plowed it all away for new shopping center

Sadly, it is true.
. . .F***.
Yeah it was a beautiful area less than 1/2 mile from my home. It was always cooler than the rest of town on a hot day and would flood wonderfully (like 1ft) when the rains came. Haha, it was a lot of fun to grow up next to stuff like this. As for your poignant comments, you're all right! It brought tears to my eyes when I visited my old hometown last week. It had been close to 3yrs and this is what I came back to.
At least they are not building a Walmart, we already have one at every other exit down the freeway (literally 4 in a 6.5 mile stretch). Walmart destroyed about 45 businesses in the area when it came in 8yrs ago. The town finally passed a law kicking walmart out 4yrs ago, but two sprang up at either end of the city limits!
Sorry for ranting, but this was pretty shocking. Thanks for your comments!

This used to be a flood/forest hike (yeah, what were they thinking, trails in a flood basin) area next to a stream that ran through my hometown. It has been destroyed to make way for a frigging shopping center. WTF...
