The Great Work

Mod review

This mod...just...this mod. What a sensational work of art this was. I have never been so scared out of my wits since I played through the original Amnesia campaign. In fact, I would honestly consider this the unofficial sequel to the original story (especially since it takes place in the same universe). The new monsters were scary as all hell, the new music and sounds were fantastic, the voice acting was surprisingly well done, the story kept me interested the whole time (which never happens in custom stories for me)...absolute best custom story ever.

I gave it a 9 and not a 10 because of a few reasons...
-The difficulty of the puzzles...some of these were just plain unsolvable even with the notes, and I found myself having to watch the solutions almost a dozen times, which I never have to do in this game.
-The COMPLETE AND UTTER lack of oil. Half the time I was blindly wandering the halls without being able to see a friggin thing, despite trying to conserve oil the entire time.
-In Chapter 2, when I picked up a key, the description read "it's another key, numbnuts." That immediately broke any sense of immersion I had, and that really should be changed.

All in all though, this is still by far the absolute best custom story I've ever played for this game. Awesome job!
I did a playthrough of the whole thing, so check it out to see me freak out and scream a bunch! Youtube.com

In da house - Chapter One

Mod review

Just...after playing this, I feel like I want that 10 minutes of my life back. There was absolutely NO substance to this custom story, no rhyme or reason, no point, no flow. Just running around, finding items that make no sense, trying them on about 20 different doors, running into one monster (which was stuck in a room and never left), and then it abruptly ends, leaving me scratching my head as to what in the holy hell just happened. Not to mention the INSANE amount of clipping textures everywhere, some of which actually impeded my path at certain points.

If you're going to make a mod, make the player WANT to continue. Add a story, flesh it out. Have a point to it. Make it interesting. Build the tension with an unsettling atmosphere. In the end, that's what Amnesia is all about, it's not all about running around using keys like a madman.

Mod review

Let me start by saying...what a great mod this was. It was obvious that a ton of effort went into the level design.

The atmosphere was one of the absolute scariest I've ever been in. Honestly, I have not been that on edge or afraid to look around a corner since the original Amnesia campaign or Silent Hill 2. Heck, every time I found a door that was locked, I was actually pretty happy that it didn't open. And that ghost girl...GOD THAT GHOST GIRL.

HOWEVER...the cogwheel part was the first time I've ever truly lost patience with a custom story. It just seemed out of place compared to the rest of the mod, and the room was WAY too large and foggy, making it hard to find stuff. Add to that the fact that the mod crashed 3 times for me causing me to restart each time, and I wasn't a happy camper for a little while.

All in all though, it wasn't enough to detract from the mod overall, which was fantastically done. Here's hoping for a sequel. I also did a Let's Play of it (the first part's basically me rambling a lot cause I'm so on edge). Youtube.com
