This is why I use so many layers, easy editing without having to go back and redo lots of steps.
This 'tape' texture I added has multiple levels of detail. Lines, smudges, lines on top and bottom of it's upper border to simulate depth of the tape on the mag, etc.
When finished the texture didn't line up, so with layers it's an easy fix to go back and crop without having to redo much. In the image the fix is already done, where I had to slant the line downward to actually get the borders of the 'tape' to correctly line up on the mesh.
Without layers, when a mistake is made, then one has to go back and redo a lot of work.
