Earth and the core worlds are suffering. Overpopulation and lack of resources are leading to unrest and desperation. That's where you come in. You've been recruited to colonize a planet more than 4 light years away. It's your job to save the human race from its own greed and consumption. The game is experienced from a top-down view allowing for the deliberate and creative customization of every item, vehicle, and structure in use. Using a scrip-table and dynamic artificial intelligence the AI Overlord will change up every aspect of the game. Settlers have discovered three new animals planet-side. The number of animals found on your planet is going up all the time and here are three new discoveries found by settlers on the planet you will be settling. Keep an eye out for these, some are good resources for hunting and some may hunt you if provoked.

Up first, the Owl Bear. Yes part bird and part Bear this thing is large and has some massive claws to support it. It walks the forests of the planet you are settling and nobody really knows what it will do if you get too close.

When it is standing it tends to spread it's massive tail feathers to intimidate and impress the other creatures in the area.

I've been working my butt off on Violent Sol Worlds. I really have. We now have 3 entire sets of armor, that are all interchangeable. They all have different effects and change the look of your character. I've also started to get us our starting sets of weapons we can buy in the store. Here are three weak laser pistols that you will learn to enjoy.

Each one of these guns will have different stats that drastically change how they work. The first one is going to a slow shooting inaccurate piece of awesome. The second will have a higher firing rate, and the third will be more accurate with the faster firing rate. I will go get them into the game and record a good video to demonstrate the difference in the guns and show you why you will want to gather more resources to get the better and better equipment.

A critical part of Violent Sol Worlds is the gear. Survival is made easier through getting better gear. Plus some of the stuff is just cool. So we are pushing lately to get the store to allow for all types of items to be purchased and customized to your liking. We started by adding the dynamics that it takes to do equipment.

Here is a quick video demonstrating the new store functionality. You can choose equipment or pistols now on our development branch. Each item now is dynamic as to what effected attributes it shows in the information panel. You can see in the video that the guns have accuracy, fire rate, and damage, and the hats have health and armor modifiers.

I am adding equipment to the customization store. I started by getting the equipment tab in the screen. Then I realized that our equipment was being done differently than items for resources, so now I am fixing that up.

Up next is destroyed graphics for each one so that enemies can kill them all, yes they will have to be protected. I am also leaving for two weeks. Yes an actual vacation. So I will not be working until after that is done. So everyone be good.

Hey all, what have you used for physics in your games?

We have leaned toward writing our own for Violent Sol Worlds

Here is the type of thing I have ran into during our integration of the new engine.

  1. Our stalker bugs had messed up bodies, wrong size and flipped vertically
  2. Stalker hives did not have physics at all
  3. Stalker hive only did outer body collisions
  4. not all bodies had physics centers set
  5. When we died or teleported we could no longer move
  6. When we exited the car we could not move anymore
  7. Lasers did not move more than a few feet then stop in mid-air
  8. random null pointer awesome

That was the list of things I crushed yesterday. There are more and I will be attacking them today from time to time to help get us closer to releasing our next build (11)

I finally have the physics working in the POC with Separation Axis Theorem. It was a challenge and I had to go all over the internet to find all of the mathematical things. For that reason I want to work on getting a real tutorial that is one with some open source code and real working example.

It is so frustrating to have to look all over the place and figure out which parts are not correct or are broken. So stay tuned for something better.
