Butthurted people over at the Nexus forums jabbed me in the back with their big banhammer, maybe their ePeen is now bigger, but anyway, my advice, in general, is to avoid that place like plague itself, if you hate seeing people rulling over you like Hitler and locking your stuff up without even the smallest amount of concrete and undeniable damn proof. To hell with your network, Robin. I prefer nowdays uploading my stuff to Moddb or Mediafire, where people are not biased towards reports like your site staff is.

Edward the Confessor crowned King of England!
3rd April 1043

He has traditionally been seen as unworldly and pious, and his reign as notable for the disintegration of royal power in England and the advance in power of the Godwin family. His biographers, Frank Barlow and Peter Rex, dispute this, picturing him as a successful king, who was energetic, resourceful and sometimes ruthless, but whose reputation has been unfairly tarnished by the Norman conquest shortly after his death. Other historians regard this picture as only partly true, and not at all in the later part of his reign. In the view of Richard Mortimer, the return of the Godwins from exile in 1052 "meant the effective end of his exercise of power". The difference in his level of activity from the earlier part of his reign "implies a withdrawal from affairs"

Alright, Freelancer arrived with SpedireWeb.it

LordMalacath Blog

Freelancer arrived in less than 24 hours. I ordered it off from Amazon for a neat 9.99€, complete with manual, game CD (obviously) and complete soundtrack CD. What I noticed is that while the publisher is Microsoft, the re-seller appears to be Ubisoft. I still hate Ubisoft after the milking that they've done out from the Assassin's Creed series, but anyway.

I'll install the game soon enough, and hopefully, with the help of someone, I'll have some fun before digging through it.

While checking italian gaming sources such as tgm.it, I found out that a lot of people knew about Freelancer, while I never heard of it. How is this possible? How did I managed to fall to CCP's 'give me money if you want to play' EVE?

Freelancer is one of the games, other than Mount & Blade and Morrowind that never excited me like this.

Schedule

- Acquire Freelancer (DONE)
- Pick up a famous mod and get rolling into the environment (LOOKING AROUND)
- Understand what people seek and what people really want (TO DO)
- Understand how Freelancer is organized file-wise (VERIFIED - thanks to a file map - PRINTED)
- People said LUA is used in Freelancer? Well. I have plenty of LUA (LS) knowledge after my past experiences with the Unreal Engine. (VERIFIED)
- Need to learn more about .utf/.cmp and .3db file formats (Nvidia Game Developer here I come)
- Type of engine? Static light. (VERIFIED)
- Multiplayer environment? PRESENT. (AWESOME)
- Particles? .sx or .pp? (TO VERIFY)
- 2D graphics? Normal .dds/.tga containers or more complex .dao files? (TO VERIFY)
- Assemble a team (Not a priority)
- Learn the lore. (DONE)
- Create a small concept. (DONE)
- Draws of planned 3D models. (TO DO)
- 3D models? (TO DO)
- Textures? (TO DO)
- Create something (TO DO)
- Continue Scaedumar 2 aswell. (TO DO)
- Assemble a server (Done - I re-assembled my old BF1942 server)

Specs of the server:
Intel E8500 OC'ed at 3.2 Ghz (cooled with an Artic Freezer 7)
Asus P5Q
4GB of RAM XMS2 Corsair 800Mhz OC'ed at 1066 Mhz
NVIDIA 9800 GTX 1024 GRAM
Intel SSD 510 - 128GB (for the OS - Windows 7 Server)
Seagate Barracuda SATA 750GB 10.000 RPM (cooled with a modded 8' fan - mainly used to store gaming profiles of the players and stats - formatted)
3X WD Caviar Green 2TB (used for my music and movie database when I used it as a HTPC)
1X WD Caviar Black 1TB (never used and never plugged to the PSU/Mainboard) *HDDs are all in RAID 5
I'll probably RAID it when I have time.
ISP: Fastweb Fibra-100

Location: My house.
Status: Offline (not plugged into the AC outlet, genius!)
Total space that can be used: 4982.5 GB
The SSD will not be written but readable, since there's a limit on how many write-ups you can do on a SSD. Perfect for the server files that I used with BF1942. Excellent read speed.

The server was used over at BF1942 for Europe-wide parties for almost 2 years. I recently brought down the server and I intend to use it for some other game that has multiplayer support.

FAQ:
What the fuck?
It was an ex-gaming PC of mine that I re-hardwared to use it as an HTPC with my TV, then as a server for CS:S, then as a server for BF1942 and now without a job.

Seriously?
Yes. I was about to sell it over at HardwareUpgrade.it

4900+ GB of free space?! Do you sell hosting space?
Not anymore, due to the chaos that some users created.

Curiosity - at how much you were selling your space?
I selt space to my friends mostly, 10€ per month for 100GBs, total control via FTP..

So, what do you plan now?
Nothing. I'm interested in a game, and since it's moddable, I'm planning on constructing a community using some old friends of mine from the Battlefield-area.

Can you lease me some space?
Yeah, contact me privately. You'll just need to pay your part on the electricity bill.
Comments are welcome.

A sci-fi mod concept for a mod called Freelancer
Current funding: 125€

The barren wasteland left by the nuclear war between the Coalition forces of Iran, China and Russia against those of USA, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan, de facto forming the Alliance, have forced several members of the latter to proclaim a state of emergency, an emergency due to the dangerous birth rate decrease, to the radioactivity, and to the lack of resources. The solution? The solution adopted by the last Alliance government was simple, a mass exodus towards a new place, towards a new life. The last resources available were thus allocated to a highly-secret project by the misterious name of 'Rebirth'.

The minds behind the ESA and the NASA notched down a large concept of sleeper ship the day after, concept that involved major corporations such as Caterpillar, for its heavy industrial machinery, Intel for its nanotechnology, and major software houses such as Microsoft, to code the planned navigational software that was to be used once out from the Oort Cloud. Companies such as Virgin Galactic, Boeing and Rolls Royce have secretely contributed to the project with materials and funds, most notably with special engine designs based on the use of accelerated protons. Bayer AG, a leading german pharmaceutical company, supplied the project with a special blood-coolant to avoid tissue damage over massive amounts of liquid-hydrogen. The contributions to the project were many, documentation however is scarse.

The JAXA, in the meanwhile, concentrated on finding a suitable target for the Rebirth project, several scientists from the fellow space agencies of NASA and ESA suggested on going towards Alfa Centauri, the brightest star in the southern constellation of Centaurus, or Proxima Centauri. However the last choice was immediately trashed due to the type of star in the system of Proxima Centauri, a small and faint dwarf star. The japanese scientists, knowing that a binary system such as Alfa Centuari would be hazardous for the consuetudinary life of every human being, pointed their HRLA complex over at Mount Fuji towards the Outer Arm of the Galaxy, towards a place codenamed 'Shibumi', or Austere Elegance in its english equivalent. The chosen star was similar to Sol's star, the Sun, with several terrestrial planets in its habitable zone. The only issue however, were several large gas clouds, surrounding it, that could have made navigation through it dangerous. The spectre emitted by the star and its planets were analyzed by over four hundred scientists, that discovered high amounts of carbonium, nytrogen, hydrogen and oxygen, thus classifying it as a suitable target for the Rebirth project.

Setting my PC up again

LordMalacath Blog

Well, since I'm still gathering money for my planned LGA 2011 socket entry, I'm still using my old and 'reliable' LGA 775. I never had problems with my build (yes, it's a custom build and it's no OEM shit that they sell you at an ESM) but when my old VGA died, a Sapphire VaporX 2GB 5870, I pointed towards an Asus.

The card that I'm talking about is the ASUS DirectCU II 6950 1GB (since I can't afford losing three slots and dumping my Creative SC). The card is absolutely gorgeous to see and to hear, it is very silent and cool. Under stress it rarely reaches 60°C, and keeps around 51/55°C. (Even in Crysis)

Tested with Furmark under full stress and the temperature goes up to 64°C and stays there. (and it's full stress at 1920x1080 with EQ filters).

But...
there's always something that makes me swear.
For fuck's sake.
AMD's drivers suck balls hard. I keep getting BSODs (BCCode 116 - related to VGA drivers), I tried almost all versions, and still nothing.

I paid 230€ for this card (and in the future I consider going xfire with it) and I can't use it?
What the fuck.

My patience is growing thin.
Let's hope that I can do something before Easter or I'll just start smashing with a hammer.

Problems at College

LordMalacath Blog 1 comment

To all the guys that I promised to do something for them, or to all the people to which I had to finish something, I'm sorry to say that there will be a delay. I screwed up hard at college with my recent behaviour (not doing homework, or just acting like a wiseass to the professors) and I'm risking to fail this year. I'll need to 'fix' this situation before I can attend to everything else that is computer-related.

I'm sorry for this annoucement, but my hobby of modding won't pay out, that's why it's a hobby.

Sincerely,
- LM

Disfida di Barletta

LordMalacath Blog
Disfida di Barletta

The Challenge of Barletta (Italian: Disfida di Barletta) was a battle fought in the country of Trani near Barletta, southern Italy, on 13 February 1503, on the plains between Corato and Andria.

The battle was provoked by a French knight Charles de la Motte who, after drinking too much of the local wine, made disparaging remarks about the Italians. It consisted in a mounted tournament between 13 Italians (the most famous being Ettore Fieramosca), based in Barletta, and 13 French knights who were based in Canosa di Puglia. Charles de la Motte accused Italians of cowardice. The Italian knights won the battle, and the French then left the area. Barletta has since acquired the moniker Città della Disfida (City of the Challenge), as a result.

The Battle of the Herrings

The Battle of the Herrings was a military action near the town of Rouvray in France, just north of Orléans, which took place on 12 February 1429 during the siege of Orléans. The immediate cause of the battle was an attempt by French forces, led by Charles of Bourbon, Count of Clermont, to intercept and divert a supply convoy headed for English forces. The English had been laying siege to the town of Orléans since the previous October. The French were assisted by a Scottish force led by the Constable of the Scottish army, Sir John Stewart of Darnley. There are two places called Rouvray in the region in question. In his biography of Sir John Fastolf, Stephen Cooper gives reasons why the battle probably took place near Rouvray-Sainte-Croix, rather than Rouvray-Saint-Denis.This supply convoy was led by Sir John Fastolf and had been outfitted in Paris, whence it had departed some time earlier. According to Regine Pernoud, this convoy consisted of "some 300 carts and wagons, carrying crossbow shafts, cannons and cannonballs but also barrels of herring."The latter were being sent since the meatless Lenten days were approaching. It was the presence of this stock of fish which would give the somewhat unusual name to the battle.

Started to play Mass Effect 2

LordMalacath Blog 2 comments

Just started to play the campaign of Mass Effect 2, despite the fact that I already had the game under hand for some time, until today. Under advice from Folgore_RM and Ubitor that Mass Effect 2 cannot disappoint me, I installed the game and I started playing. I liked the story in Mass Effect 1 but I never had time to finish the game (and unfortunately I don't have the CD anymore), so when I saw that the Normandy got destroyed by that big ass warship, I realized that I spoiler'd the game for myself. So, here am I. Waiting that Steam downloads Mass Effect 1, after that I paid 14.99€ for it, and couldn't find any-other action in which I could have invested my time rather than writing this blog entry. Wish me luck, in my re-discovery of this interesting serie.

For those wondering where I got before I left in Mass Effect 1, I arrived at a planet somewhere which had a sort of giant worm popping out from the soil and trying to eat your ***beep*** vehicule.

New here on Moddb

LordMalacath Blog

Greetings, fellow modders and watchers.

As I mentioned earlier in my biography, the main reason why I registered here is that I would like to partecipate in a total conversion effort of Skyrim to the lore provided by Ken Follett, with his Pillars of the Earth novel. The project is daunting yes, due to some major factors that could break gameplay and thus ruin the experience for someone (I for one would hate to see the magicka factor gone), but from what they told me, they're applicating themselves to this pretty hard, so why not give a hand?

I've been trying over the past years to create a total conversion mod first for Oblivion and then for Mount & Blade Warband, which was aiming to recreate medieval Italy (a span of time between 1099 to 1200 - after Crusades era). Unfortunately, the project was scrapped due to the lack of dedication and discipline. The guy entrusted with the file management screwed-up and lost 320 megabytes of done stuff, so restarting would have been a nightmare. I was pissed, so I left. After this I passed over to the Fallout 3 scope of modding, and I started to have some serious fun with this Bethesda Softworks marked release, a post-apocalypthic environment that soon catched me. But anyway.

To cut the whole discussion down, since this was meant just as a test post, I would like to introduce myself to everyone here on Moddb, hoping that I could help in any way possible.
