To be honest, most of it wouldn't be much use.

The code was only really any use to me - the Half-Life stuff anyway, I doubt anyone else could use it without some serious re-writing.

I have no idea how many of the old team want to start over, and I've been busy myself, but still willing.

And yeah, one of the main problems last time was a lack of certain key members - animators etc. Coders weren't a problem.

I spent many years listening to people saying bad things, mostly imature little people, and I pretty much ignored all of it, so I'm not going to let it affect me now.

Given that I now have HL2 and the SDK, I'm more than willing to help start back up again if at all possible.

We'll add it once the patch is actually out.... seeing scores of 0/0 until then wouldn't be much fun.

Damn, no edit, I was going to add that most problems tend to be PEBKAC ones with Steam. Yes, it has it's problems (for some reason it decided to redownload the Half-Life content onto my machine? Didn't worry me, since I didn't need it at the time), but they'll be fixed.

Not really, Steam works pretty much fine now, and I imagine it is for most people.

I think one of the problems is that people are impatient. If something looks like it has stopped for a few minutes, they immediately assume it's crashed, so they force-close it, and go and complain.

Eh? Steam works fine for me. Always has. Installed fine, converted my old HL mods perfectly. Only downloading I had to do was for the Dedicated Server, and the patches that have been released since (though I don't use CS or DoD, so that cuts down on the patches)

WON *WILL* die. There is NOTHING you can do about it.

Steam is pretty much working 100% now, the only thing keeping the WON servers up is probably the few mods that don't work with it (SvenCoop etc).

Once those issues are resolved, bye bye goes the WON Auth servers.

I bet you've tried Steam once, when the first 'retail' version came out, it didn't work, and you refuse to try it since.

It's a file you use with Worldcraft/VHE, it tells the program what entities your mod uses, so you can put them down in maps.

Unless we can somehow make this mod listed HL1 and HL2, then yes.

Not for a while though.

The HL2 portion won't just be SP, I'll be SP and MP.

Keep in mind, that we will be switching engines for the SP version (HL1 engine simply isn't good enough for what we need), and HL2 is the most likely candidate (90%), but it all depends on how late (and capable) it is.

It's not that, it's the fact that the code would be stupidly impractical to implement properly.

Whats wrong with HL2 anyway?

To put it simply, we can't do the full SP mod in HL1. It's just too limited and constricting.

Find a server with other people, it's multiplayer only, theres nothing to do on your own.

We've come to realize that HL1 simply wasn't suited to the size and type of game we wanted, the engine is just too constrictive.

We could have done it, but it would have been nowhere near as good as we'd wanted it to be.

No offense, but this is a really stupid idea... Half-Life was never designed to be B&W, and will, in general, looks fairly bad.... especially on things that depended on colour for their meanings/effects...

Your first impressions would be right about most mods, a bunch of kids way in over their heads, but not us (or at least, not any more :D).

Don't worry, it's not exactly fun making it either (although it has its moments), lots of boring crap that has to be done :(

I don't think I'm great. I have no idea where you got that impression, unless you think likeing fairly good spelling and grammar are signs of an inflated ego...

This mod has been (and will be) a fuckload of work, for everyone involved, which we do of our own free will, and in our spare time, and at our own expense.... to produce something that we're giving away (not that we're allowed to sell it, and we probably wouldn't even if we were)....

I'm sorry if you feel that way, but obviously you'd rather harrass and complain rather than encourage and help.

As to 'why you can't ask', because you *keep* asking! Once, fine, maybe twice if you're desperate, but don't CONTINUOUSLY ask!
