I's ok, you're not supposed to recover it from within the oubliette, you'll be able to get it from inside the cistern, if you have the hammer and the chipper item.

Hey man, Modder here. Genuinely sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with Peiraprigond. Some of your critics do make sense, while some others sound a little more like bad faith resulting from frustration. I totally get it though. Figured I'd issue a response nonetheless.

"(...)but in my personal opinion, reading notes ruins a game's pacing and are boring so I don't read them."

It stands clear to me that this sole quote pretty much sums up why you had such a bad experience, why this mod clearly wasn't meant for you.

Peiraprigond was never meant to be a fast paced, easy solving, cheap scares custom story. It was intended to be a worrysome and atmospheric explore with a dark and complex storyline that lead up to an intense catharsis. And the story delivered through the notes is actually meant to intensify the journey.
Besides, the game's about unraveling SECRETS and solving an ANCIENT MYSTERY. Yes, it just might imply reading and using your brains. You'd have found a little more than "A few clues" in these notes...

This. Is. A. Heavily. Story. Driven. Custom. Story.

Now don't get me wrong, this Mod is pretty damn far from perfect, but maybe your friend just enjoyed discovering the creepy story while exploring and getting lost in this ominous place. While you didn't and yeah, it does suck but maybe it just wasn't made for you.

Concerning the rest of the concerns:

- RESSOURCES: CONCERNING OIL & TINDERBOXES
Yes, your friend is right, there is actually a lot of oil and tinderboxes. Some are pretty well hidden but most only need but a little search to be found. Also, torches remain lit.
Then again, if you've spent a significant amount of time being lost after choosing not to read the notes, sure, I believe you must have frequently ran out before unlocking new areas..

- NONE OF THE DOORS ARE LABELED
I actually agree with you on that point. Seemed like a sensible idea at the time, since most doors aren't actually labeled in real life, even in castles. But retrospectively I kinda wished I had put a few labels from time to time, just to make it less confusing to some players. This is defenetly hardcore point-and-click, I'll grant you that.
Than again early in the game you can find a note inside the library-on a table- with a complete description of the different floors and the rooms they host.

-THE LAGGY HUB
Can't argue much with that either, I did experiment lag on spawning and long loading myself.
These maps are huge. Also, let's say I've used the amnesia assets "creatively" when mapping, resulting in cool spaces but unnecessary polygon counts. I had little complaints from players with configs running it successfully seven years ago so i didn't really get overly worried. You are right though, It is far from optimized.

CONCERNING ITEMS IN STUPID PLACES:

No. You didn't bother reading notes and learning how the owners of the items lived or died, so you don't get to complain on that.

Also, many people keep items under their beds. Having rope at hand in a subterranean space and near an oubliette isn't THAT much of a stretch. But sure, I'll gladly concede that the rope under the bed isn't 'logic' enough. But I'd be curious to hear about another item hidden in a "dumb place" that isn't mentioned and justified by the story.

As you can see I don't agree on most of your critics but than again it seems like you've really suffered wanting to complete this CS so I do understand from where you stand and wished to give you a reply.
Genuinely sorry you had such a bad experience on this mod.
I wish you a happy gaming on other mods.
Cheers.

Thanks, much appreciated! No I don't think I'll find time to do any more custom stories for amnesia...I'm onto other projects right now, mostly playing and Dm'ing RPG and building miniature terrain for tabletop rpg's.But I'd sure enjoyed if a maximum of modders and players played this CS.

Why not? stumbled upon a walktrough and remembered a few things needed to be fixed. I dunno if the Amnesia community is still active but it could unearth the CS and give it second wind amongst new players or older that haven't played it?...

Hi Kammiexxx! Thanks for playing Peiraprigond and for your review, really glad you liked my CS (It's nice to still have some feedback i thought no-one played it anymore XD)

Yes the cs is a bit hard, especially finding the crowbar (obviously too poorly hinted, so the walkthrough comes in handy).
Concerning the notes it's clearly a story driven mod, I'm glad you were able to appreciate it eventually. :)

Unfortunately I don't have the time to do another CS, I had started one and had a few maps and a storyline but I've got way too many things going to have the time to map/script another cs... :/

Only works I can link you to are my drawings, here's my blog in case you're interested Thelandvaettr.blogspot.fr

Anyway thx for the feedback mate, cheers :)

Yeah to be fairly honnest there probably are some little issues with the scripts in that last part. this CS was such a nightmare to script since the gameplay is a free roam in the same areas, while new events/trigers are constantly trigered, with so much variables the scripting makes your head spin. And this last part with 3 endings was tricky.
i remember the closure of the project was lingering into a nightmarish perfectionistic frenzy. I was very tired and AMFP was to be released as anytime so I was afraid that the release of my CS would stay unoticed. So once it worked I didn't linger on beta testing, otherwise the story would never have been released.
I should probably fix these scripts but I'm on other projects right now.

Anyway thanks a bunch for the feedback and the review mate, much appreciated :)

Cheers,

Hey, sorry for the late reply and thank you for playing Peiraprigond.:)

That's weird, as far as i know something that no-one has experienced before... Are you sure you have the completed mix? Did you diffuse the "mysterious ingredient" with the funnel of the lab? If not your explosives are simply incomplete, if yes try opening a previous save, maybe it's just a minor bug, **** happens sometimes. Anyway let me know.

Cheers,

Actually I tried it myself after sending the comment and yes it's defently better to keep the spotlight but using the boxlight allows to put the spotlight farther from the window so it stills slightly lightens the window frame and the room but doesn't oversaturate the frame of the window. and the boxlight makes sure the glasses are lightened and that light seem to emanate from the outside. But your way probably works as well :)

Maybe you could try keeping the halos but removing the point light (it's the pointlight that produces sucha reflection of light on the center of the window), then use a boxlight instead, place the boxlight middle behind the window but let the edge of the box cover up the glass of the window, this way you obtain lightened glasses while keeping a dark frame. I don't know if you see what I mean explaining something as tricky is just awfully hard... :/

To be fairly honest I didn't entirely get what you mean either as I don't have the map opened in the level editor in front of my eyes. I just meant the center of the window looks saturated with light from the inside of the room.

GREAT job concerning the light & ambiance inside the room! However you should consider moving the source of the light, the middle section of the window shouldn't be that exposed to light since light's supposed to come from the outside, right?

Hey man, saw your gameplay. Hope you'll enjoy. Don't hesitate to light up places since you always come to the same areas. Btw there are numerous fireplaces you can light them up: they produce way more light than the candles.
Also there's a lot of reading in the story but don't worry there's also a lot of action, story just needs to unravel :)
BTW the puzzles are pretty hard on this CS so if your stuck at some point there's a detailled PDF walktrough inside the CS folder.

Cheers.

Buck up and stop doubting, you've gone to far for doubts to be productive. The way I see things you have three options: Put an end to the project, put it on hold or finish it like a warrior. Putting the project on hold for too long would probably mean the end of the project. Right now it looks like you need closure. Only one question matters: what would be the worst? Continue working on this seemingly neverending project...or having suffered 3 years for nothing?
I say buck up and complete the game. bring it out. Just don't start overly complicated stuff. I found out that lingering too long on a project can be treacherous. Because you evolve during the process and feel the urge to fix/change countless details to make it match with your own tastes, but it's a vicious circle as your expectations are in constant evolution. So I say complete the game but accept to leave some imperfections. Go for the essential.
Courage :)

I see what you mean. It felt pretty odd aswell when I was developping my custom story Peiraprigond(takes place in France too, but I wrote everything in English for the gamers's sake.)

Well 3 languages is indeed a lot. The question is: Is it important to your storyline for your character to be a Finn?
But I find 2 languages to be okay in these kind of games: the unkown or misunderstood language often adds to the exotism and contibutes to give the player the feeling he's somewhere deeply unfamiliar -> more difficult to apprehend -> potentially scarier.

No that's what you get when you speak french properly. :)
You're the one using internet dictionaries. Dude, it's not because two terms can convey a similar idea when used in a very specific linguistic expression, or even share a common ethymology (btw they don't, really) that the terms themselves have the same meaning just-like-that-on-their-own.
But it's true, they both convey an idea of beneolence, so the name of the town suits just fine indeed, yet it has nothing to do with translations.
Just don't forget you're the one who looked in a godamn internet dictionnary to find a nice name, so please don't pretend to teach me my own language as i'm pretty ******* far from illiterate and as it makes you sound pretty ******* pretentious.

And thx for the sharp insight concerning the level design. Wasn't talking about this specific image but about the overall display. :)

Nope dude no offense but 'douceur' translates to 'softness'in french. 'clemency' would rather translate to 'clémence' or 'indulgence'. I'm french. Very nice level design btw.

Hi angeloflight44 and thanks for playing Peiraprigond.

Unfortunately, concerning the bed there is little I can do. I remember players encountering the same issue on V.1 of the mod, so I moved slightly the bed for the latest version. Yet I saw a gameplay of two friends playing simultaneously to Peiraprigond, one got to move the bed very easily while the other was stuck and tried for several minutes. So oddly enough it depends of the player there's not much to be done but to try again eventually it'll get unstuck, that's sure. Try to grab the bed, to pull it and then right click to give an impultion, like throwing an object. You could also try to load a previous save or download the game again but it wouldn't even be a guarantee for it to work. Try to grab it different ways etc...
