At its core, Oniken is an extremely competent action platformer in the vein of old nintendo games like powerblade and contra, but what those games never did was practically pulsate with style and flair like oniken does.

Everything from its manly and awesome artstyle reminiscent of Fist of the North Star to its upbeat and metal soundtrack elevates the game from 'competent' to 'pure joyride classic'.

This game came out of nowhere, but man, am I ever glad it showed up. I hope it starts a serious trend.
