I say kudos all around. Just played 5 straight hours without a single crash. Admittedly the first 3 hours of play were nerve-wracking... not because of the gameplay, because I kept expecting it to crash at any second... finally was convinced it wouldn't and couldn't be happier. Big improvement over previous releases!

For me personally, all of my crashes are weapons related. the M14 DMR and the SKS both cause the game to crash if you try to equip them after performing upgrades on them, and the IMI Galil causes the game to crash if you even try to upgrade it. Haven't had the patience to erally test if it's any specific upgrades on the 1st two weapons or any upgrade that causes them to crash the game... regardless it's rather annoying.

yeah, I finally found it, I was just having a derpy moment when I first posted and thought it was way more complicated than it actually was... haha. Yeah once you put those changes into the xm1014's file it works perfectly in the game. Can equip and kill away with it (though I still prefer the Saiga... haha).

You want to talk to boredgunner, he's the one who put it all together.

Okay, I've solved the bug in the my comment below. To others who encounter it:

1. go to gamedata/config/weapons
2. find the w_xm1014 file
3. open it with notepad
4. find "smoke_particles"
5. replace "weapons\_ecp\weapon_shotgun" with "weapons\generic_shoot_00"

After that to fix the error of the M1014 crashing when equipped, in the same w_xm1014 file, find "slot" and change the 1 to a 2. Works perfectly now! Hope this helps someone else when they get to that point!

Aside from that REALLY great mod, incredibly stable so far aside from the issue with the M1014! I keep going through areas that used to be plagued with crashes and am always so delighted when it doesn't! Also seems to have fixed Kruglov deciding to try to become a one man army like I've seen in other mods at the first sign of trouble and actually doing what he's supposed to!

Just a quick question, how do you enable the log in game again? I've found a crash every time I try to equip the M1014 Benelli shotgun and during the raid on the Freedom base I keep getting crashes as well that I think is once again related to the Benelli. I got to the building with Lukash and saw a one of the Freedom guys point what looked like an M1014 at me and the game immediately crashed. So finding the log file would be good so I could id what the bug with that particular shotgun is, lol.

Also seems to have the long running bug of barkeep freezing in place after emissions. You have to kill the guard and quickly run over to tell barkeep to take care of your problems with the other stalkers to reach barkeep. Not sure that's fixable... just a heads up, lol.

Heh, you're welcome smrtphoneusr, and glad to hear that. No, I'm not against them being in game, for me it's just an implementation thing. And I didn't really mean to seem critical, more of just trying to inject spider reality into them. Though there are types of spiders in the Amazon that do form giant communal nests that do not eat each other, but they're as tiny as ants, but I suppose it's not impossible to see cooperative spiders. It's why I spent most of the film "Eight-Legged Freaks" laughing my *** off. Not at the actual in-film jokes, but at the fact there's massive hordes of naturally cannibalistic spiders running around and NOT eating each other. Personally, I would try and fashion them more on ground wandering spiders, they're more likely to be aggressive and try and attack you.

Funnily enough, I absolutely hate spiders (I don't count myself arachnophobic, I get blind hatred to kill them rather than petrifying irrational fear when I see them, haha) so I try and learn as much as I can about them as it helps me avoid them. Personally, I'll probably end up going to the underground levels now for the express purpose of killing them, haha. I was just putting in my two cents as an amateur spider expert is all.

Imho, given typical spider behavior... seeing them just sorta hanging out around each other like this seems slightly unrealistic. Okay, I know I know, it's a post-apocalyptic style shooter, realism is kind of a mute point. But that's always what I liked a lot about stalker, even considering that, there was a lot of it that tried to ground itself in reality. However, with very few exceptions, spiders are very solitary creatures. While the AI for the game may not account for those of a similar class deciding to fight each other (like how blind dogs won't attack each other, etc) maybe 1-2 spiders a level waiting to spring out and do massive damage would be better than a group of them like this. Just my opinion though.

Well in good news... managed to get past the crash in the bar level through numerous save games, it's something to do with the dogs I think, after they're all dead it finally stops crashing. But you can't get more than halfwy across the open field to the barricades to the Bar without it crashing before the dogs are dead. However, solving that problem lead me to another problem. When I go into the Bar itself, Barkeep is just standing there, not moving, so you can't talk to him. Tried sleeping, no dice, still standing there like a statue. I tried quicksaving and loading to see if that would snap him out of it and it did. Unfortunately, he now behaves as a normal stalker, pulling out the double-barreled shotgun and going off for a stroll into the Wild Territory.

I know it's just words on my part, but pay no attention to this nonsense Wolfehunter. SMP 2.4 was truly marvelous and with it, Stalker is still tied for my favorite game, and I fully expect 2.5 to push it over the into the #1 spot. For everyone else, either how marvelously ignorant we are, or what marvelously short memories we have. From all I read, it seems these good folks are retooling and basically rebuilding the entire game, doing the work the developers should have done in the first place by and large. That's no easy task, for those who've either forgotten, or don't know, the original took 6 years to make, and that was by a professional company with financial backing. And even then they didn't get it right, and released six patches since. And even then the final patch was flawed and was taken down. Complaining about this mod team's work taking this long is frankly just absurd when put in context, and amounts to nothing but trolling. So again, keep up the good work SMP team! The rest of us are all waiting patiently and excitedly.

Thanks for the fix wolfehunter, idk why it posted my reply to Dragon90's post instead of lonefox91's as I'd intended, but thanks for answering anyway! Hopefully this reply goes to the right place. Well with that news now I'm looking forward to 2.5 more than ever!

I did see the reasoning behind it being that way, but at the same time i think there is such a thing as "too hard", you know? It gets really old really fast when you play the same thing over and over again to try and beat a mission like that and it's damaging to morale I think when you keep losing for things you have no control over and the mission's lost as soon as it starts or the guy's dead even before the mission starts. It's not our fault the mission keeps loading with Kruglev spawning in a corner surrounded by a horde of snorks, boars, rats, and poltergeist... a situation you can't survive from unless you've got the 7.62mm minigun or a trainer.... and if he does manage to get out of that situation it's still usually impossible to complete the mission because he just wanders around the map aimlessly and you're unable to communicate with him until he blunders into an anamoly and is finally killed, or in Yantar when you're taking measurements and he sees a zombie and does the same thing, wandering around until he blunders into the base and dies finally... in fact usually after a while in Yantar I get so frustrated with him that I personally kill him just so I don't have to keep reloading it over and over again.

This new system for 2.5 sounds like it should help that, sort of the balance between mission playability for the storyline, and realism. Because while realism is awesome, the missions themselves were written to a different level of realism. Difficult is good, but next to impossible is kind of a pain in the posterior, so thanks for that, I watch this website several times a day waiting for 2.5s launch, now I'm going to watch even more!

Yeah, this has been irksome to me too, and it's not the only regular quest that seems almost impossible to do with SMP installed. you have to play the rescue Kruglev mission time and time again to finally manage to save him from wild Territory, and then if you do save him it's almost impossible to complete the taking measurements mission because it seems like the second he sees a single zombie he tries to go on a killing spree across the whole map. This goes for the other guy who's there if you don't save kruglev as well.

The other mission that's been lost is the one you get right before you enter the dark valley where you help the Dutyer save his friend, because the guy's almost always been wiped out by spawning bandits. I mean I guess this makes the game more "realistic" and unscripted but i like completing missions... not really making a request, just pointing the others out as well and letting people know they're not alone!

I know this probably isn't where I should post this, but I'm not sure where else to put it. Is it intentional with the #20 patch that weapons disappear from player made stashes? I've just been playing to try and collect and categorize all the guns in the game with this mod but anytime I make a good stash at Sidorovich or the Bar, whenever I save the game and load later all the stuff I put in the box(armor, ammo, add-ons, etc) are there BUT the guns I put in, which have vanished. I had #19 I think and I could store as many guns as I wanted, now they disappear...
