Who I am, and what I like to do is quite straightforward. I am an Afrikaans speaking white male, living in South Africa,Gauteng province, Johannesburg. I love reading, anything electronic, camping and the occasional LAN. I do not Facebook, as it consistently robs a person of free time without the person realizing it. Other hobbies include scuba-diving, cooking and gardening. I plan to have a career as a programmer or some other activity within the IT field. The geeky stuff: My favorite games *SIGH* are real-time or turn-based strategy games, and I am an Age of Empires, C&C, and rise of nations fanatic. I love mods and even helped test C&C3 The Forgotten- a mod for C&C3 Tiberium Wars. I also enjoyed "dwarf-fortress" an obscene and senselessly complicated game where you control a colony of willful dwarfs who just refuse to follow orders and frustrate the hell out of any player imaginable-Really. Google it, download it- AND LEARN TO PLAY IT, and you will have earned my complete respect.

This is the start of my blog, or rather just my opinions and experiences expressed
in a virtual document. Before I can start explaining my situation or writing
about my life, I feel that I must provide some background as to who I am and
what makes me tick.

My name is Karl Beckerling, and I was born on the fourteenth of April 1996. This
makes me a teenager of sixteen. I live in South Africa, Gauteng province in the
tree-filled city of Johannesburg. The school that I attend is named Helpmekaar
College, and the fact that it’s only a high school seems to have been forgotten
when the name was picked. We use the IEB exam and schooling system, and I am
currently in grade 10. My interests are fencing, IT and computers as well as
the occasional gardening. I have five siblings, made out of three brothers and
two sisters. Both of my parents are senior advocates, so life can be quite dull
as their word is law and their will remains the only relevant thing to consider
in most if not all discussions. I have a few pets, consisting of four chickens
that I love more dearly than any other possible alternative, and a pig. His name is “Snoetie”,
an Afrikaans word, meaning “little snout”. This is my life, as I currently live
it. AND NO I DO NOT LIVE ON SOME KIND OF FARM

So now you, dear reader know who I am, if only barely. The idea of typing up

document after document seems daunting at best, so I will only write every two
days, and post my work here. As this is the beginning of this pass-time, I do
not know whether I will do so diligently every two days, or just fade out after
a week. I have however, stalled long enough and should start typing something
relevant that does not bore someone (most likely me) to death. It is my
intention to offer my best work even if no-one reads it, and I shall continue
to do so as long as I indulge myself in this hobby.

It was a normal school day, and mediocre at best, even by school standards. We

have had a guest public speaker, doing her best to change our lives for a
better good. She seemed intent on proving to us that she could and would shock
her unruly crowd of teenagers into meek silence and co-operation. Whether she
achieved her personal goal remains unknown- but she did have a small if
notable influence in my life: She made me miss half of IT, which is an
unforgivable sin by any standards, and a sure way to end up in hell.

The next notable event of my day was that I lost or misplaced my Technical drawings

workfile, and I have to find it tomorrow. In the event that I forget or find
myself unable to find it, my life will become quite unpleasant for a few days: as
a best-case scenario. I have downloaded some random book on Java programming in
PDF format, which I have started to work through. It was free, and I acted
impulsively when I saw the link. If I find that the book helps or looks like it
may have potential, I will provide the link, if not- I will cease to work
through it and forget the whole thing.

My day was uneventful and I fear that I have typed a irrelevant
and useless first entry. I will strive to improve, so bear with me. Maybe I am
far too judgmental and hard on myself, but vanity comes to those who least
expect it.
