As long as I've been playing games I've wanted to make my own. Captivated by the possibilities of level editors, I started mapping in 1996 for Doom II. Then Half-Life came out in 98 and I was making my own Goldsource worlds. As online gaming became bigger, I found Sven Co-op in 2000 for which I made countless maps and content, including Land of Legends, which became a standalone MOD in 2009. My latest SC project (suspension) was released in 2018.

Since 2008 I've picked up Source mapping and worked on maps for Resistance and Liberation and worked on a discontinued MOD called "An Open Window". In 2012 I created Uplink for Black Mesa and started a remake in 2015, which is still in development. In 2018 I revisted Half-Life with a new SP MOD called Anti-Climax, released in March 2019.

Hello!
You don't know me (or at least we never talked) but I'll just say I hope you're doing well, health and all. (an add-on update on Anti-Climax made me remember reading your article from almost a year ago, I hope this doesn't sound too cold or "accidental"). That's really it. I wish you get well.

The human gibs from the alien slaves are a bug, yes. They are set to be human allies (so they help you), but that also gives them human allies gibs. I'm not sure if I can easily fix that without doing some serious code overhaul.

The things you mention in that screenshots aren't 'mistakes'. The tram is a high-def reimagining of the original. As with all other props I've reworked, they resemble the original, but are not exactly the same. It's called creative freedom.

The difference in LD and HD models is a HL issue. AFAIK, there were never any low-def versions of the unarmored Barney or Dr. Rosenburg (since they appeared in Blue Shift which came with the HD pack). I would have to create my own low-def versions of them but then it wouldn't be 'vanilla', since it's still custom content.

That makes sence. Although the tram always bothered me the most.

Dear Hezus,

Thank you very much for making the HL SP mod "Anti-Climax!" After so many years and after the dissolution of the HLDM online community, this mod is a real treat even for supposed-to-be-adults-already like me. It has awakened my inner child, it made me feel young again and giddy with excitement.

I'm also really grateful for all the modders and remodders out there who keep this wonderful-yet-defunct video game alive with earnest new content, a true loyalty and with an attitude that I can only describe as the "innocence of children." Yes, even with all the doubts about computers being an unhealthy form of escape, the mods, along with yours, Hezus, have really acted to me as a temporary shelter from a fierce, unloving, cynical world out there. And this can be said with each day less and less about the ruthless corporate world of video gaming. The player can really feel if the product he is playing is made with love, if care and attention is put into its craftsmanship.

So yeah, thank you man, as well as thanks for the others! I'm not participating much on HL forums because it's usually geared towards HL2, on which I think you can already notice steps towards higher inclusiveness, compromising video game dynamics (i.e. the "interactive movie"-genre). But I can't tell how much grateful I am for people to still exist, who still appreciate and know what the "early" video games were about.

Things like, having read on RTSL that a written walkthrough came with the game, which already brings me into that oldschool mood, then having to look for it, only to find it in the readme file - awesome! + the secret door + alternate ending + did you know that at the "powerful" jump pad you can actually use it to "rocketjump" you all the way to the floating island? I did manage it after several tries!

God bless the original/real fans out there!

Cheers,
Neokortex.

Thanks a lot for these kind words! It's indeed a great love for Half-Life that has kept me making content for it for those 20 years. I'm also a great fan of 90's games and I'm glad you're enjoying those aspects of Anti-Climax.
