Beautiful! I like the Xen flora and fauna in the colder regions and ice caverns. Curious how you may tackle the Breengrub and Borealis and Dyson Sphere concepts imagined in Epistle 3. :)
Xen flora in the arctic environment is an awesome idea! Imagine a frozen cave where you fight a Gargantua and it causes the area to cave in, or you're exploring the landscape, an Advisor uses it's telekinesis to bring an avalanche upon you, attempting to bury you and Alyx alive under ice and snow.
No, HL3 would be a completely new story, anything involving the Borealis is EP3.
A nice industrial atmosphere we have going on here. :)
I wonder if the Combine would have a mini-Citadel installation in the arctic regions, that could make for a neat level, maybe it could be two areas in one center, and just to get a bit creative, it could resemble a cathedral with a dark alien vibe, the Breengrub could be residing here, like a trapped lonely slave, kinda like GLaDOS but more nightmarish and grotesque, sharp walls and barriers surrounding his chamber, and the other part is a smaller version of the Nova Prospekt building, a prison compartment where Dr Mossman is being held and interrogated. Just an idea. :D I love EP3 related projects, interesting visions for something that never came to be.
Looks very cold.
Just an enemy idea, which takes some ideas from Laidlaw's Breengrub fan fiction.
But what if you could fight Advisors and they have several different forms, the first being the larval grub stage in EP2, but maybe if they're threatened enough they go into defense mode and hatch like a caterpillar and transform into a flying insect, and it tries to put dream-like hallucinations into your head, you have to fight it in this telepathic arena environment and maybe the Vortigaunts use their power to trap and confuse them, so that you can kill them directly.
I like the aurora effects. It'd be cool if the Borealis would constantly fade in and out in the background, due to the space and time warp it's travelling through, as mentioned in Epistle 3. And perhaps as you go inside the ship, the corridors and engine room would be trippy and be upside down or something, showing how the technology on board is messing with reality. You could even take some influence from the Vault segment in Half-Life Alyx. :D
Interesting. Maybe even you could replace Mossman's jacket with Eli's vest? I could see her wearing her father's clothing as a way to remember him, so that she knows, even though he's gone, he's still protecting her. :)
Creepy alien infested sewers. Is it just me or does the 'entity' in the distance give a 'beta' vibe?
Kinda gives me Nova Prospekt vibes, imagine if at some point in the game, we went there and broke out, but found out a friend or ally of the Resistance got captured and 'processed' by the Combine... could put a spookier spin on the part in EP1 when Alyx regretfully laments on the fate of the stalkers.
"This is what happens to you if you resist! Or if you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time... God I hope you don't remember who you were."
Damn. City 17 has never looked so good! Not sure what's the deal with the 'drape' covering the side of the apartment, unless the Combine are just now 'prepping' it for Citizens? something else i'm wondering, since City 17's geographical location seems to be like a mix of things, does that mean the Combine 'broke down' other cities and 'built up' new ones? Dr Breen did say that it was one of the finest remaining urban centers.
Could this be the beginning of HLA? she's not yet equipped with the 'grabbity gloves' and it looks as if she's just been spotted by the Combine. Maybe this is when she, her father and Kliener are relocated to City 17?
I wonder if we'll see the Citadel get dropped by that 'ship' hovering in the sky and the Combine will add extra components and pieces to expand it, carefully 'sit it' into the surface of the Earth. Maybe they'll take away the extra 'cables' and 'supports' once it's complete? Looks pretty damn awesome, i gotta say, i hope we'll see it become 'dynamic' and 'animated' at some point in the game!
Well, if it's any consolation, I can't make models, maps or textures at all, at least you can. xD
Oh, i wasn't talking about the Combine, though they did in fact spread around Aperture, i was talking about the Xen aliens from HL1, i don't really see how GLaDOS could keep them out, i understand by the time of P1 she probably incinerated them, but it's logical that there'd be signs of them. Somewhere.
I'm not sure if you're being tongue in cheek on purpose or not, i was being sarcastic and i admit it, but you keep saying Black Mesa is nowhere near Aperture as if to counter the argument that the Incident affected Aperture, the portal storms affected everywhere, and this is of course why GLaDOS kept the facility hidden and remained in obscurity. Understand now? I don't want to come off as confusing, so i hope that's cleared up some confusion at least.
Oh, did headcrabs just fly to Europe then?
Random area with no explanation. But there's an atmosphere... sorta.
Actually, when you think about it, it was never supposed to feel 'optimistic' considering the Combine have taken over the world around Portal 1. And Aperture is located at the epic center of the Black Mesa Incident, so i imagine it'd be very gloomy and almost dead.
I really like the aesthetic here. Simple atmospheric details.
Some Xen in the background and it's perfect!
Good idea. There's a lot of sections in the first Portal that could use some Announcer dialogue.
