I'm a post graduate in Computing and applied Mathematics... Only they haven't run courses like that for many-decades... I've had various jobs in the computing/IT industry, but I've mostly been writing boring web-based applications in VB.Net for a living for almost a decade now. I first got interested in making computer games in my teenage years, writing basic on the VIC-20. I then managed to get some public domain programs published for the ATARI 800XL, one was a JetPack clone, and I've been interested in games programming ever since. Although I've heard too many horror stories to want to do it for a living. I mainly write 2D stuff, based on the type of games I grew up with, but try to mix this in with the good things from everything I see up to present day.

Hello everyone, first off I've just got a little 'continual runner' game accepted to Desura, and they are adding it to their Free Friday pack on the 24th... so if anyone wants to take a look and let me know what you think I would be grateful.

Secondly I have a question/request. I've got a longer term project that has evolved from a bit of an experiment into a budding engine that takes parts from old-style top-down RPG games and good old fashioned text-adventures and mixes them up to make a text and joypad entry system.
Now this may sound odd, but I think I am getting somewhere with the coding. What I would like to know is if anyone can point me in the direction of a good text-adventure (interactive fiction) development site or forum. I've had a look myself but couldn't find any active development forums, only download sites and reader/user communities.
Do text-adventure development communities still exist?

Interesting game, and visuals. It's like a more arcade-like version of something I've been working on for a bit, and funnily enough I'm also trying to tell a story.

There seams to be something about black and white visuals that lends itself to this...

I generally refer to XNA as a library, surely that's essentially what it is. A library of pre-written routines that are designed for graphical and timer based recursive programming.

Having recently had a look at Unity, surely it would be wrong for someone beginning to be under the impression that XNA is remotely the same thing.

Using XNA reminds me of the old Turbo Pascal, and Turbo C environments for some reason...

So do you think people are put off if a simple 'twitch' arcade game is priced at 1$ (or 1£)?

Are customers likely to think it is rubbish if it has a low price tag, or should just as well be free?

I'm having difficulty understanding the problem here!

The MOD is out and it is free yes? But you need to have purchared the origonal half-life 2 game to play it.

They are now releasing a full commercial version, that incorporates it's own game-engine, hence is a stand-alone game.

So what's the problem? Surely thay are taking nothing away from the free MOD community?

Did thay origonaly say the stand-alone version was also going to be free?

I wouldn't buy half-life 2, but I may buy the stand alone commercial version of this, as I've played the demo on OnLive.
Sorry, but as I said, I don't understand the argument...
