Hey there. I like to play videogames, watch anime, draw pictures, listen to music, and watch movies. I'm an avid gamer who is amazed by mods and the dedication of the modding community. My favorite mod, as a veteran fan of Doom, is Brutal Doom of course!

Doom: The Golden Souls 2

Mod review

The Golden Souls 2 is likely one of the greatest mods for classic Doom. The cheerful and colorful atmosphere of Mario adds a hint of cozy fun to the brutality of Doom, a combination as good as peanut butter and chocolate!

Like with Super Mario World, there's a world map that you walk through as if it's a Doom level... you just can't jump or mess around too much. There's so many levels that it's mindblowing, and the stunning amount of content will keep you playing for HOURS on end! There's nostalgia at every turn, with songs and sounds from SNES games. These levels range from beautiful green hills, to a cozy beach. The variety is stunning, and there's so many secrets that will encourage you to search every corner.

You jump around in these levels, where they feel distinctly affected by Super Mario World gravity; snatching coins, killing demons, finding secret big coins, and using those regular coins to buy things like ammo or armor. Big coins unlock WEAPON SKINS to pimp out your arsenal of extremely satisfying guns. You score points, which serves no purpose but is still fun. I just wish there were online leaderboards for the score!

The major problem with The Golden Souls 2 is that ammo tends to be too plentiful, and it's too easy to reach a massive amount of regular coins. I never ran out of ammo for way too many guns, which hurts resource management. A core component of any good first person shooter. As someone who loves to score points, collect every single coin, and find everything, I ended up with way too many resources more often than not. However, health and armor do cost a lot of regular coins at the shop, and the difficulty is damn solid enough to warrant careful management of those resources.

If you love Mario, AND Doom, you can't go wrong with this wonderful mod! It's a satisfying and addictive blast!
