Half-Life : Residual Life

Mod review

Good beginning but starts to drag on after a while. Some levels feel unfinished with lots of running around with no action.

Difficulty was good throughout until the end when you're forced to fight translucent assassins with sniper rifles in dark areas and later on alien grunts and slaves with a crowbar. Yeah, no thanks.

Wanted to like this but towards the end I just wanted it to end already.

Doom 64

One of the best Doom game ever released. Easily on par with the original Doom I and II.

Snowdrop Escape

Mod review

Snowdrop Escape reeks of high quality content through and through that you'd think Valve themselves developed it. With roughly 5 hours of fun and challenging gameplay, amazing new models, fantastic atmosphere and good level design this is a must play for any Half-Life fan.

The only criticism that I have is the rather broken English translation found throughout the mod, it's nothing majorly offensive but it does take you out of the experience a bit especially since everything else is so impressively done.
While also most of puzzles were really well done there was this one particular puzzle towards the end of the game that involved a gate I felt was a bit too convoluted. I'd think it would help by simplifying it or explaining it a bit better for the player.

A strong 8 out of 10.

Note: I played the Steam version but I'd wager that the ModDB version remains identical.

WGRealms Demon Throne

Game review

You can't get any better than this apart from perhaps the monstrous AMC TC. So much content here; great weapons, challenging boss battles, absolutely wonderful level design, a great hub system.
It's a bit daunting and overwhelming at first but you get the hang of it after several hours.

Some gripes I have are some of the levels are a bit too dark and since you don't have any equipment that can light up the environment you have to wade through some areas in almost complete darkness.
The other is that ammo is a bit stingy in the beginning before you can acquire the double max ammo upgrade.

But overall this is a must play!

Half-Life: The Infected

Mod review

Nice collection of vanilla-styled maps and somewhat challenging gameplay. Only downsides were the rather abrupt ending, lack of a coherent story and no soundtrack at all apart from the odd music choice during the credits. Otherwise a good mod well worth checking out.

Maps feel a bit dead due to the lack of ambient sounds. Otherwise a nice map pack and well worth a try.

Half-Life 2 : MMod

Mod review

It's a bit buggy at this moment. Some crashes can occur as well. Also seriously needs some more balancing -- the pistol and shotgun both feel underpowered. The crossbow feels odd to use, like the bolt doesn't go where you're aiming, very noticeable when you're using the scope.
Also the combine soldiers using the grenade launcher on the MP7 is just downright annoying. Just press F9 if you're seeing a grenade coming into your direction.
Combine soldiers in general feel very bullet spongy as well. Take way too many hits to take down. Meanwhile they can kill you in seconds.

Apart from that the combat feels fresh and is usually quite satisfying. Fantastic sound design and great new special effects like the amazingly looking explosions and fire effects.

Black Mesa: Azure Sheep

Early access mod review

The pistol is pretty annoying to use with its slow rate of fire. One part of the mod, the outside area with the burrowed headcrabs, also ran pretty slow on my rig. Could use some more optimization. Otherwise very solid mod so far. The ending was great.
