I'm Elijah Houck, creator of Alton, IL, the largest modification for Fallout 3 to date. Alton, IL features a fully voiced population, a large main quest with two story paths, numerous side quests, dozens of new locations to visit, and a fully explorable world twice the size of Point Lookout, completely separate from the Capital Wasteland. I am currently working on Ethas: Embrace of Destiny, a mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, alongside Justin Hardin. Embrace of Destiny is a mod many times more ambitious than Alton, with a world rivaling the size of even Skyrim itself.

Absolutely my pleasure. You all have been proving time and time again that the Skyrim modding community is one of the best in the gaming world. :)

The project is in very capable hands, but yes, hopefully they're able to find some individuals to step into my shoes.

As will I. ;)

I wish there was another way, but ultimately this is for the best.

We plan on getting some smaller dev blog posts out soon, with a larger update in the winter. Despite our recent silence, we haven't stopped working. ;)

Hi vykaz-

We actually aren't looking for a level designer at the moment, but thank you for the interest! :)

I do not. Progress has been a bit slow the past couple of months due to a variety of factors, but we're about to start getting back into the swing of things. Glad you're excited!

Thanks! Indeed we are, we actually started conceptualizing it a few months before I finished Alton. :)

Indeed. The only reason we're requiring DG/DB is because of the resources they add (Dawnguard's forts, Dragonborn's ash resources). Hearthfire merely adds a few house pieces, which isn't something we could justify adding as a requirement.

I purchased Skyrim from Gamestop, it still required a Steam install. We don't specifically check for Steam when you start Ethas, but if you have Skyrim there's a good chance you have Steam as well, with the exception of those running a cracked copy (which we do not support).

Thanks! We're also hoping that folks will want to dig into the lore as much as possible.

Sorry, not gonna happen! See my explanation here as to why: Moddb.com

As far as expansions go, no. Ethas requires Dawnguard and Dragonborn (but not Hearthfire). Skyrim requires Steam, so unless you have a cracked copy or are otherwise blocking Steam, Ethas by extension requires Steam as well. We won't support cracked copies of the game, obviously. :P

Thanks! It's actually a bit more on the orange side of things in the wee hours of the morning (7:30) versus when the shot was taken (8:30), which was right as the sun was hitting the peaks of the Western Reach.

Anyway, something like this is purely subjective, so to each his own. :)

Some sunrises are a pinkish color, the Plains has a nice pink sunrise. I'm keeping this one yellow, however, as it's inspired by this beauty, which was the first piece of reference art we found when thinking up Ethas:

Yeah, the collision on the top of the guard towers outside of the city hasn't yet been created, so the guards would fall through the tower. :P

It'll be there, we're quite a ways from release.

By keeping vanilla textures on objects such as our rocks, we are giving users the ability to use the thousands of retexture mods already on communities like Skyrim Nexus. If you don't like the vanilla rock textures, you'll be able to replace them just as you always have been able to. :)

The only section in all of Ethas that has pines is the Western Reach (the mountain range the video took place in) and its immediate surroundings. The rest of Ethas is quite different, for example, the Great Valley: Moddb.com

Someone pointed that out a while ago, but I'd like to mention it's Valyria in A Song of Ice and Fire, and Valeria in Ethas. Furthermore, I have never read the series or watched the show, and Justin's only stated watching it in the past year or so. We originally came up with the name for the city way back in June of 2011. Just happens to be a coincidence that they're so similar. ;)

It depends on the quest. In this case, Marelus is scripted to stand by the fire prior to you entering, that way he can have that nice surprise reaction as he turns around when you approach him. The voice actors have really been hitting it out of the park, they've all done a great job.

Unfortunately it's a limitation of how the building kit and the walls kit are scaled. The pillars (which are part of the building) are not only too wide to merge into the wall properly, but also didn't match up with the length of the wall tile.

I like nitpicking like this though, half of my job is nitpicking my own work. :P

As one final update on the video, it's coming today, but most likely late in the day. Between finishing the video, exporting, and uploading, I won't have time to post it before I head to work. But hey, better tonight than never, right?
