I had to get out of the game just to come back here and say..... WTH?!? Unbelievable! GREAT update. Lots of cool features added. I love the combat screen now and the fact that you can see how many hit points the enemy has. I see that more of the combat avatars for the heroes have also been completed.

I've been checking in every few days for a while now hoping for the time to come when I see Dark Gates updated in Desura. Today was that day and when I went to the page I was happy to see a new release and this release is KILLER!

GREAT work Braqoon!

I just picked up the rest of the set that I was missing. I already had #2 and #6. Great game books. I miss the good old days of being a kid in the 1980s and playing the D&D "Pick Your Own Adventure" books and of course the best at the time was the Fighting fantasy books.

This game looks great and while I always play a Warrior type hero, I'm interested in trying out this game and seeing how well I'll enjoy being a mage type character.

Question: Any chance for split class type characters like a Battlemage that might make use of armor, swords, and cast spells perhaps to a lesser degree than a full fledged mage?

I'll be purchasing a copy for sure, but at the current price, I think I'll wait a few more months to see how this game progresses. Good luck to the developers.

Any news on the next update? I've been patiently waiting for it. I really like this game and was hoping to see an update, or at least some news from the developer(s).

Enjoy the game?

I woke up at 4:50am this morning and instead of going back to sleep, I fired up QuestRun for a quick mission, and ended up playing until 6am. LOL It really is a nice game and while some say it's hard at first, I'm old school (Wizardry, Ultima, etc...) Nothing was as hard as trying to get off the ground in Wizardry I, so I'm enjoying the challenge here. Eventually you get enough cash to increase your chances so that you can get a little further. Trial and error also help. I just figured what I think is that some classes do better against some creatures, so you need to learn that and adjust your party to match best against the enemies on the screen at that time.

Again, really nice game and lots of fun. Thanks for creating it.

Just bought the game and it definitely is interesting and once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed it.

One thing though, and perhaps it is in the plans during the later stages of development.

I like to create my own party and then use them to progress through the dungeons. The pre-determined characters are fun for now, but at least allow the players to choose perhaps, race/class/sex and then name the heroes. Also, let those heroes level up and be able to be used in the next mission or quest, etc... until the game is completed by the player.

Anyhow, nice game and I'm glad I picked it up. Keep up the great work.

Well, I'm off to play some more.

John

PS: Almost forgot. I saw someone else mention this. Fullscreen would be nice and preferred over windowed mode.

I'm liking this. :)

Since some dungeons require multiple parties, is there any chance for multiplayer coop or something along those lines?

When you beat the game once do you have to create a new character to play again, or can you replay with the previous character?

This looks amazing and exactly what I was looking for. :) Is there any thoughts on a possible mission editor or maybe the ability to play with others via LAN access or something? Just curious.

Thanks

PS: Is it possible to tinker with the art icons? I have an idea of a border around each of the hero/monster tiles that might make them look a bit more 3D'ish. I'm not an artist but maybe if I can tinker with the tiles I might be able to show a concept that maybe someone with better art skills than myself can make use of. :)

I agree 1000%!

I wish Desura would only offer games designed ot be sold by their service. If I wanted STEAM games then I'd go to Steam to pick them up. As I don't use Steam at all, I'd never bother going there!

I wonder if there is a way on Desura to have it hide any Steam games from my account so I don't see a great looking game and then say "DAMN IT! It requires Steam. Well, so much for that game!"

Great looking game and one I'd love to play and own. My friends & I would love the co-op play. Sadly, it requires Steam which I would NEVER install on my PC. :( Oh well, $9.99 can buy me lunch tomorrow instead. :)

Do the monsters move about the dungeon? It looks like they just stand around in the video.

I agree with you pretty much 100% when you talk about this being a hard game because it is a roguelike. These youngsters today don't know what it was like to play games like the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe, or the early IBM PCs, or the roguelikes for that matter. Very unforgiving, very difficulty, but when you finally beat the game, the excitement and sense of accomplishment you feel is damn well worth it! You know you didn't just hack through a game with mindless ease, you had to think, perform tactical maneuvers and pray for some luck to even get past the first few levels. Lot's of fun.

Oh yea GREAT!

I just bought this on my Mac Mini by Crapple and now it's here on PC too? :(

Well, another $3.99 well spent I guess!

To those who haven't played this game, it is a neat title. I really enjoyed playing it on my Mac Mini, and was telling my brother about it and how much fun it was. Now, my brother can see what I mean by picking up a version for his PC.

I hope the author plans to expand or release something along the lines of Dwarf Quest II, as this first one is a really fun game!

So, I've seen this game before and must admit the graphics are really good. :) I like what I see in the video too. I do have a few questions though after visiting the website.

On the website you have a client and server download. I know that (sadly) the game is not multiplayer so I wanted to ask what does the server do other than act as a chat room? Does it keep high score type stats, etc...?

If we purchase the full version here on Desura will there be a direct download link for the client and server?

Thanks
John

Game looks interesting although I don't know about $9.99. I'd probably spring for it if it ever goes on sale or lowers its price to about $4.99. There are just too many of these games and many are cheaper or even free. Keep at it though, I wish you luck.

I wish someone would make a Temple of Apshai Trilogy type game, or even Gateway to Apshai. Sadly, those classics from Epyx have never seen remakes or related type games. :(

Another release for Steam and another $10 I save! I refuse to buy any games that require Steam.

Too bad, I was looking forward to their game. Ah... there are lots of other developers who don't require Stem to play their games. I'll just give my money to them!

I'm not worried about losing the $10 as that won't happen. If worse comes to worse I can file a dispute with my credit card agency. I already have an email in to Desura, I'm just waiting for their response.

I'm old fashioned in that I prefer a downloadable copy of a game I purchase and not a streamable download like Steam uses.I like having a zip, or installer file that installs a game without needing to connect online to do so. I have my own file server where I keep all the games and apps I ever purchased in order and have quick access to them.

The other BIG issue for me is that I REALLY do NOT like having to install software such as the Steam client on my PCs. I wasn't even a user of Desura until someone told me that the games have direct downloads like GOG.com. So far every game I purchased on Desura had a self downloading installer or zip file. I've not had to install the Desura client and wouldn't if that was it's only way to enjoy these games.

How do I get a refund for this game? I did not know it requires STEAM to run. I do NOT and will NOT install Steam on ANY of my computers. I just paid a second ago expecting to see a download link like every other game I've purcahsed on Desura. Yet, for this game there is NO download link and simply says this game Requires STEAM to run. If that is the case, I'd like a refund and will avoid this game.

Is this at all similar to Moria from Middle-earth? What I mean by that is that you the player are digging / building your underground city and various creature and such that lurk within the ground can be set free to wreck havoc on the Dwarven Areas?

I just pre-ordered. Can't wait for the game to be released. :)

You know I was thinking and unless I am misunderstanding "You're in infinity dungeons (in length and width) full of monsters and treasures.", it sounds like the dungeon will be limitless. If so, it may be cool to have an eventual multiplayer aspect similar to something like Minecraft where you run a stand alone server and then other players can join and adventure on their own, or work together. Just an idea I thought I'd mention. Would be neat to team up to tackle a powerful boss, or perhaps to just be wandering and bump into another living player in the long halls and passages of the dungeon. I can imagine that perhaps you find underground villages, or settlements where you can pick up quests, or buy/sell objects. All in the bowels of the earth. :) Obviously this game is still under development and multiplayer if possible, would be a long ways off. :)

Congrats on the new release. I can't wait to get home from work and try out ver 0.3.0. :)

BTW, those new avatars... That Draugr guy looks MEAN!

I hope he doesn't frighten all the monsters out of the dungeon. That would make for a uneventful delve. :)
