I'm primarily interested in Single Player mods such as new Campaign maps or various other gameplay tweaks and addons. I'm also a huge fan of the Aliens, Predator and even Terminator franchises and will always be on the lookout for Mods that are relevant to those themes. The reasons why I don't play multiplayer is because I grew so disappointed and frustrated with the lack of officially support Co-Op modes such as Campaigns that work fully with Co-Op multiplayer. Unlike how back in the early days of Classic Doom and Duke Nukem 3D as I really missed how back in those days, Co-Op is 100% Fully Compatible with the entire campaigns' maps WITHOUT any issues. Nowadays, you're lucky if Mods to create a Co-Op experience even exist for the game you want to play. I just became so fed up with the current industry, as they rarely ever cater to those that enjoy good full co-op campaigns so I called it quits entirely for Multiplayer, in particular to all the competitive Deathmatch gameplay modes.

Indeed, imagine if only he was actually in charge of making a commercial Aliens game. I bet if he were given the right resources and the right team of people to work with he can potentially make an Aliens game that would have turned out to be a million times better than what Gearbox had done.

It's always about the heart and the passion, and he delivers this mod with a passion like many other modders that had created and released Aliens mods before him.

I don't think he'll come back to this anytime soon if ever since Deimos said the 2014 release would be his final revision of his mod, although we can only hope somewhere down the line he'll make another new update.

I kind of wished that someone would pick up after where the original modders had left of and attempt to make a more completed version of the mod or something. I really thought this project had been "foxxed" and received a "cease and desist" or something but surprisingly it had made it to a public release so that's good for the community and fanbase of Aliens and FPS fans.

One other question, do you happen to own Aliens versus Predator 2010 as well? If you do, then will it be possible at some point you try and see if you can modify that game's single player campaign as well with similar gameplay tweaks and concepts that you had implemented in your current Aliens Colonial Marines Overhaul mod?

An Overhaul mod for AvP 2010 basically is what I meant.

I very much doubt it. Many of the changes he made applied more so to weapon and AI behavior, textures, graphics, and sounds, but to add something like what you wanted and I like your idea also. He would more than likely need to add in new code which isn't possible unless somehow a SDK or source code is released to the public which it currently is NOT, and probably never will be because Sega won't permit one to be released and they don't want a SDK to be released.

I even asked the modder earlier if the boss fights for the last fight with the Queen and the Raven be modified in any way just so we can kill them with any weapon desired such as when we fight the Crusher boss we can kill and damage it with any weapon we desire instead of the what the Game is pre-scripted to permit us to only use to complete those boss fights; Power Loader must be used to kill Raven, the switch throwing sequence must be used to beat the Alien Queen. He told me those pre-scripted sequences cannot be altered in any form or way without implementing new code and that is because there is No SDK or Source code released that will prevent a mod like that which requires adding new code.

You just reminded me that sirlemonhead's patch did not restore LAN TCP/IP mode either, wonder what's been holding him back to try and restore this, gonna have to talk to him about it, maybe he's really busy and caught up with other important things in life.

I kind of expected that a source code would need, but there really isn't any other way now other than maybe trying to use updated code from sirlemonhead's version since Rebellion just don't really seem to care to support the game or the community by re-releasing the most current and up to date source code. And that gets very frustrating when they just ignore people like you and me.

sirlemonhear's updated AvP Source code is here btw: App.assembla.com

Don't know how much it would actually help or make any difference but I think it's worth a try.

After all his updated code is still closer to AvP Classic 2000's code compared to the original full AvP Gold Edition source code that had been previously released by Rebellion themselves, since Classic 2000 and sirlemonhead's code both are updated and support DirectX 9 compared to the original's DirectX 6.

But now you've made it clear to me that that maps have the ability to Only either endlessly spawn Marines or Aliens and that every other Bot doesn't really seem to have a settings for and are specially placed characters only in Single Player maps. I really never understood why Rebellion didn't permit settings for all bots even if meant just merely disabling them, and can be re-enabled through modding, etc. More importantly, why they never bothered to be more creative and had consider removing all of those limitations Prior to releasing AvP Classic 2000, as now I know they just won't give a **** to support or update their game in any form or way remotely to what I would like to see.

Now I understand that by being in debug mode you can potentially have endless marines on multiplayer maps, but something in the normal parameters of skirmish and co-op modes don't allow them to be spawned.

I wonder what code or what part of the code could potentially be preventing and causing the limit that only when using Debug mode all bots are then accessible and when Debug mode isn't enabled, then it's strictly as to whatever Bots are pre-configured for that particular map.

If there was anyway to analyze it in sirlemonhead's code maybe it might help, maybe it won't make a difference, although I could only hope as that would ignite new interest in me to actually even play the multiplayer AvP again even if that meant endless Marinebots for me and someone to co-op against as Aliens and Predators. Because to me that is still some significant progress and better than the same boring Co-Op and Skimirsh modes.

I guess I'm one of those lucky few that still own AvP Gold, but it's too bad I don't really have anyone to play LAN with anymore and yet I want Co-Op to be enhanced and updated to support all AI controlled bots and now understand that it's impossible to change without the source code.

I see. Man, that's what I was afraid of, needing to add new code. Even for those things I mentioned earlier absolutely requires adding new code? Well darn it. I know, I know, and I blame Gearbox and Sega for NOT releasing a SDK.

It seems like for right now anything more than changing the textures, graphics, sounds, weapon effects and enemy or AI behavior really isn't possible to change or adjust.

At least, unless for some miraculous reason somebody over at Gearbox read any of this and secretly leak a SDK or Map Creator and Editor to community or something, and that is unlikely to happen since I doubt any single staff member that made the game have the entire game and engine code, and unless they're leaving the company anytime soon.

But we never know, I know Gearbox and Sega had absolutely refused to release a SDK even when various members of the community of Aliens fans had requested that they should re-consider on more than a single occasion. Sigh.

OK, but what about adding Smartguns and/or RPGs or Flame Throwers on every single Single Player Level just for fun?

Can that still be done Without adding any New code? Or is that also impossible?

I know we can't keep these weapons in between levels but what if we have the option to use them more frequently?

DoNotPlayMultiplayer @ - Terminator -

The last Terminator licensed game was only available on iOS and Android OS devices which was based on the 5th Terminator movie and even that was a flop and box office bomb. I was surprised there still hasn't been any other new Terminator games released, although I heard the people that made Rambo: The Video Game had acquired the rights and licensing to develop and release a new Terminator video game.

A Coin-Op Arcade game based around the 4th movie, Terminator Salvation was actually better and more enjoyable than the ****** Consoles and PC version that had been released, but then again the movie wasn't that good either, unlike how Terminator 3 had multiple video games released across Consoles, PC, Gameboy Advance, and even a Pinball game.

As of now the only last thing I've heard is that another developer known as Reef Entertainment, who had previously made Rambo: The Video Game have acquired the rights and license to The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day and had made plans to develop and release a game called "Terminators: The Video Game".

But aside from this it's pretty much zip, such a shame. As of now, there has not been any new updates on that game and I only hope that it would be substantially better than what the games that had been out for Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation had turned out, as they all had been pretty much rushed out the ******* door to just a buck.

I had questions regarding on whether or not it would be possible to modify the game to allow players to beat the Raven and Queen bosses with any other weapon as they desired instead of the pre-scripted stuff such as how you normally Must Always use the Loader to beat the Raven boss or Must Always use the switch sequence to kill the Queen.

In other words, would it be possible to give us the option or possibility to actually finish the sequence or beat the boss with our own weapons instead what Gearbox only permitted us to use?

As I thought that would potentially been much more interesting in the last battle when playing co-op compared to what we have now.

At least the Crusher boss gives the player that level of flexibility, as players can pick and choose any weapon they desire to fight and kill it with instead of something that is entirely pre-scripted.

Now I understand that the follow up video sequence for those bosses would still remain the same, but that's fine anyway. I am more curious as to whether if this can actually ever be changed with what you have now to modify the game with.

Other than that, what about 3rd person mode for the Marine or 1st person mode for the Alien, can this be also made possible in any way at all even without a SDK or the source code?

Never understood why they did not bother to remove the limit and allow us to fight enemy Marine Bots or Predator Bots together in "Co-Op" mode.

DoNotPlayMultiplayer @ AvP Classic Improvement Project

That's something I never understood. Such as why there were never any Bot spawning commands for Face Huggers or Alien Queens to begin with even when in "Debug" Mode?

Thus that must have rendered it completely impossible to add them to Skirmish and Co-Op maps.

It makes me wonder what's in the Source Code that could be altered to change this entirely and remove that limit altogether.

Although I do understand and am aware of the original Gold Edtion source code that had been released is completely outdated now.

But there had been another modified and more up to date source code released by sirlemonhead for AvP Gold. Although I don't know if that would help or not in finding a way around the Limitation of the same 3 Alien Bots for Skirmish and Co-Op maps. His updated source code would be similar to Classic 2000 since sirlemonhead's code had been used to create the Classic 2000 re-release version. So maybe that might help, or so I hope at some point somebody figures it out.

Other than that, it just seems that new single player maps are the Only maps that are completely compatible with all bots and therefore can be designed to include all AI controlled enemies in the game in a single map.

I LOVE the new idea of having being to be rescued by friends for Co-Op.

Traps and hazards can always add to the challenge since the Bots in the game aren't really that smart and bright for the era of the game had been released. If only they AI's can be re-tweaked a bit for Marines and Predators to make them more interesting to fight where the same 2 or 3 tactics used against them do not always work each time.

Secret ares and mini games? That sounds interesting, almost like Easter Eggs in a game? I've been still trying to figure out all the secret and hidden areas of all maps in the stock Maps of the entire game in case I had overlooked any of them.

I do understand the lack of demand and attention this game received, but I do blame Sega and GearBox mostly for f---ing over the community and fanbases to begin with (not so much Prometheus or Ridley Scott for that matter) which is why I think the fanbase and community had shrunk over time.

The AvP movies, is another thing that really seemed to have divided the community and fanbases more, as I think that never really helped either. I also never understood why Fox claim they wanted to save money in creating AvP movies set in modern day earth settings instead of a futuristic space setting consistent with all of the previously released content and materials pertaining to AvP, such as the games and comics and novels had always had always been set in the far distant future. With the kind of money they had spent on creating those 2 AvP movies, we could have had at least 4 or 5 much better Aliens video games by now. Sigh.

Also, thanks to the way those last couple of Aliens games had turned out to be, I had learned to appreciate AvP 1999/Gold/Classic 2000 much more, because they the newer and modernized Aliens games had all lacked any kind of SDKs and custom map creation support, but rather follow the whole "microtransactions" from DLCs business model.

I've played both your Derelict and new map for the Predator. Any chance we'll be seeing more Single Player Campaign maps from you in the future?

I would love to be able to fight multiple Alien Queens, Xenoborgs, or even large amount of Face Huggers and Predators all in one Single Player map for a more challenging experience. Would hope to see a map like that in the future, make it a combat focused map where the player must kill every single enemy on the map and survive to complete the mission instead of just throwing switches and solving puzzles. A map where the player using an Alien must kill some Xenoborgs and lots of Predators is another example of an interesting combat focused Single Player map.

It's such a shame that when they released the Gold Edition they only expanded the Multiplayer and Skirmish maps but did not offer any additional Single Player campaign maps.

Although I've learned that it was still possible to experiment and explore all of the Single Player maps with all species via the Nelev utility or renaming the map filenames and backing up the map files.

I'm also interested in seeing new Skirmish and Co-Op maps based on many of the locations from the movies. It's just too bad Co-Op and Skirmish is still LIMITED to fighting the same 3 Alien Bots even after a re-release on Steam after all these years, instead of supporting ALL of the Bots in the game for a much more fully complete Co-Op experience.

DoNotPlayMultiplayer @ Aliens: The Ultimate Doom

I think this is most complete and modernized Aliens (and Predator) themed Doom mod yet.

I've noticed you use the Pulse Rifle and Flame Thrower sprites from Aliens Online.

Do you have any plans to use the Smart Gun and Pistol sprites from Aliens Online as well?

Examples here: Forum.zdoom.org

The pistol sprite from Aliens Online looks just like the same pistol Gorman and Frost held in the movie. I think it was the Combat Pistol that had been used for Aliens Colonial Marines.

The current sprite you are using for the pistol is similar to, although not exact like the pistol that Vasquez had used.

What I meant was implementing different "weapon skins-sets" for the player's HUD and that we can then choose which version we want (E.G. Weapon skin sets ripped from Aliens Online, skin-sets ripped from Alien Trilogy, or some other Aliens game or a completely new done from scratch set of sprites for them).

But I think the Aliens Online's weapon sprites in the player's HUD look perfect fitting with Doom's old school retro style, but that's just me.

I mean I saw skins of weapons ripped from Alien Trilogy and I thought they were pretty good too. The pickup version of the weapon sprites in Alien Trilogy didn't look that good though.

Lastly, I would like to know if eventually we will get an item version of the Motion Tracker INSTEAD of the typical HUD versions that we had seen and used in Rebellion's AvP games and Alien Trilogy as they were all HUD-styled Motion Trackers? (I don't mean completely remove it, just the option for players to choose, Easy HUD Motion Tracker or a More Realistic Motion Tracker)

What I meant was a more realistic design of the motion tacker, such as like how it was implemented in Aliens Online and Aliens Colonial Marines.

You would have to bring up the Motion Tracker to be informed of possible enemy movement and switch back to your weapon prior to engaging enemies in combat.

Obviously this would increase the challenge and difficulty of the game but it becomes more realistic and would be ideal for co-op if it was ever implemented.

Quick question: Any chance for another update or revision of your Aliens MOD? It's probably the Best one in years. Will there be more maps or other gameplay features added eventually? Or is the current 1.2 Version download considered the final revision of project by you and your team?

It's been 4 years now since this Mod was first available to the public. I'm glad this Mod is still alive and up and kicking. You guys did a better job than the mess that GearBox and Sega had made with their Aliens Colonial Marines game. Even another modder that made an Alien Colonial Marines Mod for GZDoom did better than GearBox and Sega did.

All I'm saying is that I am glad and thankful that your Aliens mod got released to the public and did NOT get "foxxed" or censored by some greedy corporate SOB. It still gives me some hope and faith that the community actually cares and cared way more than what Fox, Sega and Gearbox had done and treated the fanbase and community.

Even if Fox were going try and shut it all down now, it would be too late since your Mod had already been available to the general public and downloaded and shared worldwide.

If more future Modders that wants to make Alien themed Mods they should do the same thing you had done: finish the project as much as possible and just release it to the public for download AT THE SAME TIME when they announce it.

That way they don't have to worry about being "foxxed" or shut down, since it would be much much too late for Fox themselves to successfully "Cease and Desist" a fan-made NOT MADE FOR PROFIT project.

Here's what I hope your Mod will eventually accomplish if ever possible in a future update:

Modify and Allow ALL of the Skirmish and Co-Op maps to FULLY and I mean FULLY Support the Spawning and loading of all of the Computer AI Controlled enemies, including the Face Huggers, Sentry Guns, and the Alien Queen.

Yes, I'm talking modifying the Co-Op and Skirmish Modes to be fully compatible with ALL Bots in the game, meaning then we will finally be able to play co-op mode and fight together against ALL of the Computer controlled Predators, Androids, Marines, Civilians, Xenoborgs, Face Huggers and the Alien Queen (again if it's possible as there are no Bots for Face Huggers, Sentry Guns or the Alien Queen in the original AvP 1999 and AvP Gold either).

Why I really want something like this?

Because I find it ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE that Co-Op and Skirmish modes are COMPLETELY LIMITED to fighting Same 3 Bots over and over again: (just regular Alien Drones, Praetorians and PredAliens)

And I find it even more frustrating that ONLY Marine and Predator was given Co-Op Mode but Not the Alien?

What kind of bias is that? Well that's just me. Every Species should have been given a Co-Op and Skirmish mode that fully Works rather than a "Limited" Co-Op mode.

If somehow this can ever be fixed then maybe in the future all Single Player campaigns can be playable and would feel more Complete when playing cooperatively using tweaks such as renaming the maps' filenames and the best part would then be that even Alien players get to play co-operatively.

If possible then however, you may need to enhance and increase the intelligence level and the spawn rates of all those AI Humans, Predators, etc., to keep things interesting and make it challenging enough for Co-Op, as they are somewhat too easy to beat in the campaigns.

Lastly, as everyone pretty much knows that Rebellion didn't bother to restore the TCP/IP LAN Multiplayer Support for AvP Classic 2000, but sirlemonhead the original patch author was the real person who did all the DirectX 9 updates and Rebellion used his patch, modified it and didn't even bother to give him any credit whatsoever.

So, again, if at all possible then, try and see if you can restore TCP/IP LAN mode in AvP Classic 2000.

In the meantime, I'll have to stick with dgvoodoo 2.5 and run the original AvP.exe from 1999 and Gold Edition for Local LAN play, since that's like the only known workaround for this as of now.

Now, this is the progress of what I am looking for.

This is what I originally wanted in Skirmish and Co-Op modes. Well, so far this means it's absolutely possible in Skirmish modes and any skirmish maps.

If all Skirmish-compatible maps can be modified somehow to always automatically load up all available bots and spawn ALL bots randomly and endless then that makes it much more funner and interesting. No more fighting the same 3 Alien bots over and over again as a Predator or Marine, as now you must survive against randomly spawned enemy Predators and enemy Marines as well. That's the way I really thought it should have been in the first place, especially if they were going to re-release the game to work on Modern PCs!

So, are there any chance that you can figure out how to make something like this work in Co-Op mode?

So that way we don't always have to fight the same 3 Alien Bots over and over again and therefore we'll finally be able to fight and kill other bots as well?

Maybe even complete SP Campaign maps together cooperatively with all respective Bots pre-loaded or spawnable on those maps?

I know we can play SP Campaign maps together in Co-Op through renaming map filenames, but we are still LIMITED to fighting the same 3 Alien Bots regardless.
