Devin has been programming for years and is looking to break into the game development industry full on. He currently has two projects in the works for pH 1 Studios as lead designer, and is always up for some code monkey freelance work.

Prototype nearing completion

DevinBM Blog

Thanks to the new Unity 3.1 asset store we were able to pick up the protopack. This little $15 darling is great for placeholders on assets that are not yet complete. We've managed to import a whole bunch of placeholder models and apply our scripts to them. Better yet, they're working great. Changelings has always been fast to script and slow to model. Now, the modelers aren't pressured everyday to pump out they're stuff and the coders aren't bored waiting on modeling assets. (And our sound guys aren't having to mediate... heh).

All in all, we, at pH1 Studios can't wait to see what other sorts of cool stuff make it up onto the Unity Asset store.

"Changelings" Announced

DevinBM Blog

So, I got the honor today of writing up the news article for our official announcement of "Changelings." We, at pH 1 Studios, have been working on this title for a while now, and I finally managed to convince the other team members that we had enough content ready to show off that we could officially announce what we've been working on.

Those screen shots and pictures everyone has been looking at on my profile that I've said are from an upcoming title, are for "Changelings." Everything is up and ready to go on the page so go take a look. (Psst... I'll probably get eyes rolling at me for saying so too early, but a Website is on the way. IndieDB will be the 1st to know)

I've been drooling over this piece for a while and now we can share it with you. Just a little part of the great work everyone's doing over at pH 1. Check out the logo for the game:

Our artists threw that together a while back and we think that it really captures the feel of the game.

So, be sure to check out the Indiedb page.

Texturing Texturing and guess what more Texturing

DevinBM Blog

Last time, I posted about how we do some of our development process. About how once a level is designed, we go and sick the QA guys on it to make us feel terrible for all the glitches they find. Then we go back and fix them. rinse repeat until it's in a good state.

Well, once we move past that stage on a level another couple team members go in behind us and start the polishing process. They go through and make sure everything is UV mapped correctly, then texture everything. Next they add in any fancy particle systems we want like smoke stacks, rain, snow, fire, and even the occasional noxious fume fog.

I'm happy to announce that these guys have a crap job that I'd hate to have to do, but our guys make it look easy. I am posting here tonight to raise my metaphorical glass in toast to the guys that have the crazy patience to make sure every little texture looks right, none of the animations pull anything crooked, yata yata yata you get the picture.

Anyway, a shout out to pH 1 Studio's polish team, Thank god you can do it because I sure can't.

Alpha testing

DevinBM Blog

At pH 1 studios we check our work as we go, and after just finishing up alpha testing one of our levels for our upcoming shooter, I was pleasantly surprised. The QA guys came back with some easy fixes, and a scale change or two (Someone left off the roof off a building, but was easy to add).

With nothing seriously wrong with the level, we're moving on to adding in more props and filling the place out a bit. Once we double check all the collisions I think we can begin work on the next one while some of our team polishes and polishes and polishes the levels as they get finished.

All in all, great news to move our timetable up a bit.

Anyway, on to the next step.

First Indie DB blog post

DevinBM Blog

As this is my first post on the indie DB site, I thought I'd throw out a hello to everyone out there that stumbles in on this.

I don't know about the rest of the community here, but I'm here honestly to look at all the projects in development. I'd have to say, this place looks exciting.

I've just looked around for a couple of minutes, and I was trying to add my studio to the site so I can post a job opening on my team. Needless to say, as soon as I find it, I go to download our studio Logo off the server, and guess what? The server isn't responding. Since we have a fantastic Ubuntu server setup, that could be only one thing...... Updates! Our network admin guy is probably getting little giggles out of the rest of our team running around like some all-too-familiar chicken metaphor.

Either way, when the server comes back up, keep on the lookout. Our studio is looking for 3d modelers, texturers, and animators. i.e. artists. We're using the unity engine and our programmers have a good base to work off of because of it, but we're lacking in the graphics department.

If you're interested and can use Blender, Maya, or Zbrush, shoot me an e-mail, PM, and/or send me a link to your portfolio.
