We think about it a lot, but I'm afraid it's unlikely - we'd have to pay a lot of money to manufacture them and I'm not sure it would even be allowed. We can dream though :P

It is planned to be free on Steam, yes! We'll let you know if that changes
Phenomenal to see how far this has come since 2019! Fascinating to see many of the puzzles are intact since then, I spy one or two cut ones as well. So cool to see the early Spire vista too
Amazing showcase Distanced, looks like you and the team have been working hard! Love the gel pipes of course, but I think my fave model shown here is the crane arm, excellent colour choice. Those PBR-ified models look fantastic too, and I'm very intrigued by the snippets of dialogue/script below each image, great addition.
Merry Christmas Team Abyss, looking forward to seeing more!
Few people will realise just how impressive and unusual it is for a mod project to make it this far. Finishing a huge endeavour like this on a volunteer basis is a task of herculean proportions, let alone with a small team. It must feel surreal to have finally reached this point, but you should be extremely proud for having done so.
Your honest thoughts really struck a chord with me; as a fellow mod lead I know exactly how you feel. Projects like this can be incredibly rewarding in a way nothing else can, but they're also uniquely stressful and challenging. I'm beyond impressed with how you've stuck with it to the end. That takes serious dedication, passion, and skill, and I know it will be rewarded -- you will go far.
Stefan, you and your team have my utmost respect and gratitude for working so hard for so long to create something awesome for us Portal fans to enjoy. Congratulations to all involved, you should be very proud of yourselves -- and the very best of luck with the final stretch. I think I speak for everyone when I say I can't wait to play Portal: Revolution later this year :)
Hi! The graphics overhaul will purely be applied to Desolation, we have no plans to remaster the original Portal 2 campaign as it would take years of additional work. Sorry to disappoint!
No plans for that, don't worry. We just posted a big update last month and progress continues to go very well. These things just take time!
Yes, we do plan to include developer commentary in-game :) glad you enjoyed the update!
Development's going well! Lots of progress behind-the-scenes. As for updates, can't promise anything huge but watch this space :)
Amazing work to all involved, these screenshots look luscious. Big fan of the clean Modern Aperture maps in particular, but they way you've subtly upgraded Portal 1 is great too. Very impressive progress, can't wait!
Not for a long while, sorry! Release is years away, but we're working hard to get there. Stay tuned in the meantime for updates and previews :)
Yes, there will be a fully voice-acted story to drive your actions in-game :)
It's not something we're planning for. If the worst comes to the worst and we can't finish the game as we envisioned, we'll endeavour to ensure something playable gets released no matter what. But we feel that's unlikely to happen at this stage.
Thanks! :) No plans for that tbh, it'd take years of work and it's not really within our scope as a small team. We all love Portal 2, but we'd rather get creative and make something new than try to remaster a masterpiece.
Thanks! Can't give any info on sys reqs at the moment as we're still working hard on refining the graphical overhaul and a lot of stuff is subject to change. That said, performance is important to us and although the minimum requirements will be higher than Portal 2, you won't need a supercomputer to run Desolation.
Yes! :) Feel free to fill out the application form (linked in our most recent article)
Definitely -- keep your eyes peeled over the next month or two :)
- Achievements are definitely planned, yes :)
- Desolation will consist of a full single-player campaign. We don't currently plan on implementing co-op or any other game modes.
Desolation will release on Steam, and the current plan is for it to be free -- but if that ever changes, we'll let you guys know.
Release is still a few years away, and I know that's a long time to wait but we're confident it'll be worth it. In the meantime, keep an eye out for updates and previews coming soon :)
Thanks so much for the kind words :) and keep an eye out for updates soon!
Can't get over how cool the High Energy Ring looks
It's looking awesome guys, I'm impressed :) This is an excellent article with lots of valuable insight into the creative process -- aspiring modders, take note!
It's still in development, not released yet -- stay tuned for updates though!
