I'm a versatile person who knows a little of everything. I was once a digital artist, and I went by many names over the years.
OpenGL DGVoodoo 2 wrapper? The details about that are in the mod's first post at the homepage.
Read this thread and try the solutions from it: Steamcommunity.com
Also, there is the option of selecting the video driver/card in Gothic II's options menu. Check if you can select the nVidia graphic card once you tried solutions from the linked topic.
The Union was updated to v1.0d a few days ago; it's compatible with the Union saves of v1.0c and YAUP v2.2/2.3/2.4. Its most noticeable change fixes the application crash due to the exception at 0xc0000005 memory address, so if you had this issue, you can install the newest, improved version for even more bugfixes.
It was inevitable that some antivirus would do that at some point. Other users (and there are a lot of them) didn't report anything of sort, so it's a statistical error. Thank you for report.
Then, for debugging purposes, start a new game and try to enter the Valley of Mines and see if the issue happens still. Using cheats is obligatory.
Did you start a new game or started with a save from v2.2/2.3?
I need some feedback, peeps.
I'm currently working on a trait/perk system. The trait would be a one-shot thing that the player can select during the very first dialogue with Xardas (or they can skip on it entirely, so it wouldn't be obligatory). I initially planned to make a trait something that benefits the player while handicapping them in some other way. For example:
- Frost Guardian: +30% damage with "cold/ice" spells but -30% damage with "heat/fire" ones; or can't learn "cold/ice" spells at all and have "heat/fire" ones being easier to learn by half (halved LPs cost)
- Flame Sentinel: the same as above but vice versa
- Scalawag: easier Pickpocketing checks but needs more LPs to learn taking trophies/forging weapons/brewing potions/creating runes
- Grunt: more Health per level but less LPs per level too (or can't have more than 30 max. Mana or more than 100 max. Dexterity)
- Thug: +15 to all protections but potions replenish less by 2/3
- Forager: Triple the meat yield from slain animals/monsters and raw meat/fried meat is thrice as replenishing but everything is 10% more expensive at merchants (also, 10% money when selling stuff; doesn't affect the scripted, fixed prices)
As for the perks, the player would gain a perk point every 15 levels. That would allow him to learn the desired perk with a teacher (however, every teacher would teach a "secret" perk, so no one would know what a given teacher teaches until they would learn their perk knowledge; the list of teachers and their perks would be made available in the FAQ once the system is finished, though). For example:
- Resilience: +35 max. Health
- Combat Stance: +6% to either melee weapon skill (one- or two-handed) [additive]
- Arcane Lore: +10 max. Mana
- Sharp Sight: +7% to either long range weapon skill (bows or crossbows) [additive]
- Survivalist: fried food replenishes 20% more Health
- Sunburnt: +10 Fire protection
- Magically Scarred: +5 Magic protection
- Rebounding: +25 protection against special damage inflicted by golems
- Enlightened: +40 Learning Points and cheaper donations at statues of Innos [by 40%; no changes for Paladins and the blessings for their weapons])
The names are the working titles, and thus generic, and ought to change (also the names of traits/perks might change too). Traits/perks would be available only to the player. They would individual log entries under the "Specials" section. Traits/perks would be visible in the character's sheet as well (under the TRAIT/PERKS section, marked as either (T) for trait or (P) for perk). Finally, the values and effects or traits/perks are pretty random and shall seen being altered in some way.
If anyone, I mean, anyone, has an idea for a trait/perk, feel free to lay it on me. Also, I accept general feedback regarding the whole concept.
Thanks in advance.
PS. Also, if anyone wants to collaborate on YAUP, give me a shout. But feel no pressure.
Hey! I would like to do that, but I don't have enough time as of lately and adding a plethora of armors is a lot of effort.
There is an Orc Hunter armor available through cheats (insert ItAr_Oht), though. It's from Sequel, I think.
Do you have links to available resources I could implement, perhaps?
1) Follow the installation guide, because Union is required. If you have v1.0c, then revert back to v1.0b. Have only one v1.x Union package (either v1.0a or v1.0b or v1.0c) installed. YAUP doesn't work with the classic SystemPack v1.7 and the pre-Union required auxiliaries for Gothic II mods any longer.
2) That was a vanilla bug, the same as with Huno (and again Bennet at The Halls of Irdorath). That means the amount of raw steels is limited now (approx. 135 for the entire game), and mostly new Chapter merchandise-controlled, as intended in the first place.
Uninstall all Union assets (all of it; right-click on an asset and select the "Clear" option), then reinstall them again via the installation guide (Game Patch should be installed first), then try to play the game. Also, you should have only *one* Union v1.x package installed (not v1.0a + v1.0b + v1.0c together, for example), thus make sure it is so. Eventually, you can stay with v1.0b alone, because v1.0c doesn't add too much changes (mainly Direct3D surround sound, .OGG files compatibility, extended parser for scripts, and solves the issue with unarmed animations), plus it's still fresh, implying there might be updates to it soon.
Alright. YAUP of version 2.4 is up.
I fixed some more of the remaining vanilla bugs, revamped several dozen NPCs to react differently to the player's actual guild (the voiceover remained the same), added a couple of new textures and meshes, implemented a couple of new solution possibilities for a couple of quest instances, polished the scripts for many general improvements, and so on. It's just better than the previous version, trust me.
Also, please notice that Union was updated to the v1.0c last week. YAUP v2.4 still works with Union of the v1.0b, so update to the Union is not obligatory (just recommended).
Additionally, if you downloaded the YetAnotherUnofficialPatchQuickScripts.vdf file at any point, please delete it before installing YAUP v2.4.
Version 2.4 is going to be up this Sunday, and if not, then definitely this Monday.
I will be brief: there is no competition and/or alternatives for YAUP, because the vast majority of Gothic fans that know how to mod the game are at odds with the modern Latin, thus they can't consolidate their efforts and create a proper "community" patch. In the meanwhile, IronKeep's stuff is desperately outdated and it might not even be able to work with the obligatory SystemPack, while YAUP works with the newest v1.8 integrated with the UNION.
Additionally, that's why I created it in the first place: because I was fed up with installing all those little patches that were all over the place, and with glaring bugs/grammar errors that could be easily fixed.
And where it was said it's the 64 bit version? That's why I linked to the patch's homepage so you could get it if you want to use it.
Okay, I just downloaded your saves and tested them.
I have zero problems with going to VoM from Khorinis, from Khorinis to VoM or Jarkhendar, the Chapter 3 starts as normally, and the other chapters too (tested with the cheats).
Try to move the YetAnotherUnofficialPatch.MOD to X:\Gothic II Gold\Data\... (from X:\Gothic II Gold\Data\ModVDF\...), and rename it to YetAnotherUnofficialPatch.VDF. Make super sure you have the file from MEGA.NZ, I linked you to above, in the same directory (so you would have YetAnotherUnofficialPatch.VDF and YetAnotherUnofficialPatchQuickScripts.VDF in X:\Gothic II Gold\Data\... directory [but NOT in X:\Gothic II Gold\Data\ModVDF\... directory!]) and launch through Gothic2.exe, then try to load a save again.
Just to clarify: you didn't start the vanilla Gothic II Gold, then found this mod, installed it, and started with the saves from the unmodded Gothic II Gold version?
If not, then send me your saves (copy and compress the whole SAVES directory in your Gothic II Gold installation directory, then upload somewhere and give me the link). I will try to determine what's wrong.
Execute the UNION method installation from the guide, but first uninstall everything from the regular method of installation.
Drop this file to X:\Gothic II Gold\Data\... directory: Mega.nz
I made a mistake trying to leave the backward compatibility with the older SystemPack. Everything will get better in v2.4.
Uninstall the regular method and install with the UNION method. If it still doesn't help, visit the mod's homepage on WoG (the link is on the left of this page, in the "Profile" section), grab the file from the post #316 and follow the instructions from #328.
At the moment it's complicated like that, but with the v2.4 it will be all easier, because only the UNION method will be allowed and the basic scripts will be rewritten to fully accommodate the change.
PS. I don't know when v2.4 will be available, but right now I'm rather busy, and have no time for modding Gothic, so it might take a while.
Not yet. Too many custom format textures for items and objects and the author of DX11 renderer can't (or won't) tell me which format his creation needs in order to work with custom format textures, hence no compatibility. But I'm working on it.
Since Spacer can't read .ZEN files (I assume any of them, original and of this mod), then you might want to check for their corruption and/or something interfering with Gothic II Gold-related executables.
I don't know what to recommend beyond what I already recommended. You could read FAQ section on WoG for YAUP too.
"Even worse"? You can't launch Spacer because of "Assertion Failed" error or what?
Then I don't know; zSpy should report the last file it had read before the crash.
Many people played this mod and no one ever reported this kind of error. Try to install ModKit 2.6 for Gothic II Gold and see do you get this "Assertion Failed" error too with it.
No prob. Take your time, man.
I think I will pass on the donations at the moment. But I'm going to look up how to insert the donations button in the description at some point in the future.
Also, I really don't have time for sorting the changelog.
I'm already adding the lines in it with the newest at the end, so the higher the number, the newer the change.
Weird. I just checked the torches and entering the Valley of Mines and it works. Also, all files required for either are inside the archive... seems like third party software is interfering. Maybe the antivrus or something else in the background (virus)?
I have no idea, truth be told.
Try to download the v2.3 and see if it happens still. If you already have it, then install PlayerKit from the installation guide (if you don't have it) and run the game with GothicStarter_Mod.exe (don't select any options, just start the game with it) and give me report from zSpy when the error happens.
EDIT: I found some details. The zEngine (Gothic's II engine) got a critical error during reading some file's header. It thinks something is unnaturally enormous, so it crashes. The most straightforward theory: something is corrupted. Your Gothic II installation or the mod or SystemPack/Union.
I really recommend checking for viruses/malware/unneeded background programs first; then reinstall Gothic II Gold, the mod, and the auxiliary programs (PlayerKit/SystemPack/Union), if that didn't help (you can keep the saves, then move them to the new installation as they will work).
Hey! You definitely need more RAM, hehe.
Send me a screenshot of profile/settings of your AMD/nVidia control panel for Gothic2.exe, please. If you also have an integrated graphic card (probably Intel) in your "ancient" laptop, then make sure Gothic2.exe uses the other dedicated AMD/nVidia GPU or something; I don't really have much experience with laptops, though, so if you have that, you'd have to figure how to do that by yourself.
Also, send me settings from SystemPack.ini (it's inside X:\Gothic II Gold\System\... directory).
If you want to, then you can also try DirectX wrapper at Dege.freeweb.hu (download dgVoodoo 2.61; installation details are in the archive), but I would still need the screenshot and SystemPack.ini settings.
Hey! I decided that each new version will be released every two months. That should give you enough time to finish a playthrough. Also, every new version shall be compatible with the previously saved games (except minor issues).
Finally, I have enabled PayPal donations as you suggested. I didn't even know they were here... can you see it anywhere? Because I don't know how it works. xD
Great to hear! If you could deliver some better screenshots, that would be appreciated. Could you take some, please?
Disable validation for SotS: The Pit in the Steam, reinstall, try again. If it doesn't help, run Steam in admin mode. If it doesn't help either, disable Steam auto startup, reinstall the mod, and run the game manually.
