I'm just an artist who likes to play mods a lot and give creators feedback. Wanna be a voice actor. If you have any questions or need something feel free to drop me a privet message, that's the easiest way for me to get to you as fast as possible.
Alright, I downloaded this through steam and I'm gonna leave a review here because there just isn't enough room there. lol
I found this mod to actually be overall well made. The last few nice SOMA mods lacked any sort of length, but this one actually had a solid hour of game play which was nice. The level design was also pretty great, though a few halls and rooms were a little bit empty.
Really the only things that need some work are the story telling and the challenge to the puzzles. The story was there, but lacked substance. I hope you make a prequel or something to fill in the blanks in the story. As for the puzzles, they were a little easy for me. I'm not sure about other people, however. I do, however, appreciate the use of puzzles, they were actually creative, and a bit fun. It's been awhile since I've seen a maze. and ZERO GRAVITY ROOMS.
Also, there weren't too many monsters. A monster or two per map isn't too bad. Especially since they were spaced out and didn't cross paths with each other, so don't worry about that.
All in all I give it a 7/10. Keep up the good work, friend.
I don't really know what to say. I'm really rather disappointed.
These maps were huge and had nothing in them aside from a few lone pieces of furniture and no lighting to speak of or really any scripting aside from a few kinda badly done jumpscares. This would've at least been visually pleasing if there were lighting or fogs, and if you dressed the levels up a bit. No one's home is as empty as this. Unless completely, 100% abandoned and even then there should be grime and such. The maps were way too big. Spread your custom story over more maps that are smaller in size, and please, for the love of god, keep all your maps under 5 MB. There's no way to make anything run smoothly without culling from level fogs.
The effort put into this was very minimal. Which made me rather sad.
You did a good job with the monsters' path nodes. But you need to spend more time on things, work out a story and play with it for a little while. Play other mods and use the original game as a way point to how things feel. Play with the level editor and script functions a bit. It might take a bit of time to work out the scaling for levels. Almost everyone starts out with really big maps. With a little time and effort I'm sure you guys can make a really good custom story.
It was far, far too short in my opinion. As soon as the story started getting good it was over, which was rather disappointing. I didn't have enough time to really start getting into it all. The maps were really quite empty and where lacking life.
I did, however, very much love the voice actor for Christopher. I typically don't like voice acting in custom stories but he has a wonderful voice and did a very good job.
I really like the story you had going, but I really wish it were longer.
This is how to end a good story.
This is probably the most well put together mod I've ever played. It just all worked so well. It made sense, and it intertwined with the original story perfectly. Everything was just played out so well, the atmosphere, the scares, everything. The fact this is an Amnesia mod is actually kinda mind blowing.
I can't even really describe how much I loved this, your use of the original levels and your own were so well meshed that I couldn't even tell the difference. I just loved how you used HPL2's features to take Penumbra's assets and levels to a whole new tier of awesome. And the voice acting was amazing. It's something I rarely enjoy in mods but everyone played their characters perfectly.
My only complaints is I wish there where more checkpoints since the game tends to crash while switching between levels. Also a little more direction? Sometimes it felt like a task was just thrown at me so it took me quite awhile to figure some things out. This is actually really quite challenging if you're in an amnesia mindset. It feels really alien at times. So a little direction here and there would've been really great. But that's really it, I didn't encounter any glitches or anything like that.
I seriously loved this, it really made me remember just how much I loved this series and I'm really sentimental about it all over again. For that, I have to thank you. I've never cried at the end of a mod before, but the ending made me cry a bit. This is how it all should've ended originally, everything was finally put to rest. I really hope you guys make more mods, I know I'll never forget this one.
I have to say that this actually wasn't that very good.
The story made absolutely no sense what so ever and doesn't follow the good ending to the original game at all. Some aspects were pretty neat but it's very buggy and the level design was kinda weird... There was so much cluttered against walls and the centers of rooms were totally empty. Not to mention in a few rooms there weren't even actual floor textures, you used the texture pages for the castle towers, not flooring textures. It kind of felt like a lot of thought didn't go into the story or level designs. A few were really nice, but many seemed to lack effort. Also, this takes place in 1848, there was no electricity in the 1840s, let alone shock therapy. Small things like that completely threw the feeling of this story off for me. But I do have to say this does show potential, it just really needs polished up and the story needs reworked a little bit.
It just left me confused as to what you were really aiming for. Nothing about it made me believe this was a continuation of the main story, let alone the good ending. If anything it followed the bad ending except if Daniel didn't die. I know this sounds really nit picky, but when it comes to continuations of the main story I like to see it done to the absolute best of the creator's ability and you show a lot of potential, so I know with some more work and thought this can be done very well. I hope to see this continued or redone one day.
I enjoyed this one but not as much as I did the first.
I feel like if you just weren't feeling it, it should've been left alone if you know what I mean? I could tell what maps you did when you were motivated and those you did when you weren't at all. It left pieces feeling really lifeless since there were empty shelves and things like that. It made me a little sad. But I can understand.
Another thing I want to point out is there were so many monsters. It felt like every corner I turned there was a suitor waiting to eat face and constantly running and hiding from them took some of the experience away from me. There were also A LOT of wall and decal glitches all through out the story. Though, other than that I didn't come across any scripting glitches and stuff like that. The maze map was pretty cool, I got lost quite a few times actually, and I really liked the last map.
Overall I enjoyed it, it was fun to play and well put together, so I'll give it a 7.
The individual maps are beautiful for the most part. Only a few lacked some details but I understand why they did that. Maybe if another one is done, you guys could put a cap or maybe split the maps up into individual files? I say this because I had had minor performance issues, and I noticed a couple rooms were lacking a lot of detail in certain places like no books on shelves and I'm guessing the creators did that to cut down on the file size. I just want to see the maps in their full intended glory I guess.
I kinda wish there was a coordinated effort with some sort of story, even if it was really simple. It's very pretty but there's really no point to it, if you know what I mean. I like the idea of this sort of project, maybe as time goes on everyone can get fancy with stories.
I give it an 8, because the maps are gorgeous and the scripts are very nicely done. But that flying naked guy and the lack of even a simple back story.
Another short one, but I kind of liked it.
I enjoyed the maps and atmosphere, as well as the story. However, the story didn't flow very well for me. I saw where it was going but it felt like it skipped a lot of information. This may have been to try to save time but it made it a little confusing to play through and hard to understand. It has potential to become something deep and great, though.
I also had a really hard time understanding the voice acting. I understood the woman, but then men had so much noise in their audio recordings I couldn't understand a lot of what they were saying and there weren't any subtitles to relay on. The voicer for Henry also didn't sound very natural, it sounded like he struggled to keep up the voice for him and it was a little awkward to listen too. His mic also freaked out when he started shouting which really didn't help in understanding what he was saying.
I really loved the music, the music was great and fit perfectly. The 3D audio was a really nice touch too for when the woman whispered. I also enjoyed the concept of an underground castle. There weren't any glitches or anything like that, I can tell a lot of time went into this and I greatly appreciate that.
I feel like a lot had gone unsaid so hopefully there will be more to the story in the future.
Oh well, now that I'm finished I have to say I'm actually kind of disappointed. I expected something longer and far deeper than that. I really enjoyed your other custom story but this one was so short.
It was really nicely made and I liked the story but I just didn't feel as wowed as I did with your other. Also another problem I had was the voice acting for the main character. He had next to no emotion in his voice regardless of what was happening. The only point I felt like he portrayed the proper emotion was when the man killed his wife. Other than that I had a really hard time taking his suicide seriously. It wasn't "Give me a moment, I've just remembered I killed myself with turpentine and am remembering the emotional and physical pain I experienced." it was "oh no i died." and talking to the woman on the phonograph, he just wasn't doing it for me. She did a wonderful job, though. As well as the guy playing Jean's business partner.
That monster legitimately scared me too. I haven't felt fear like that ever playing any custom story or any of the Amnesia games. So I'll for sure give you an A+ for that monster. Holy damn.
But I had a lot of problems with the textures. In the room with the machinery, there was no flooring. As well as when the elevator takes you into the basement, there wasn't any flooring there either. The boiler also seemed rather glitchy, only if you viewed it from the sides would the textures disappear. Though I'm very happy for the machine for pigs assets though, I've been waiting a really long time for someone to finally use them.
All and all it was a 7 for me. I enjoyed it but the length and voice acting really disappointed me.
