Yeah well on top of the first one being my least favorite of the S.T.A.L.L.K.E.R. series it was bare bones even in comparison to the vanilla versions of the later expansion packs (especially not being able to upgrade or repair your gear) and of course it doesn't even come close to the amount of love and attention this team has put into the MISERY mod. Still wish they could play around with the armor piercing characteristics of some of the ammo for added realism and some additional ammo types(then again i might as well ask for pseudo realistic ballistics and optics with aiming reticles that synch up with aforementioned ballistics but this isnt ARMA 3 and would be likely to be insanely difficult/impossible to do with this game).

I'd rather have an actual Exoskeleton helmet that you could upgrade to have a closed cycle breathing module and that has neck protection greater than level III NIJ, that is a weakness with the Sphere M12 that has screwed me over in the past whilst wearing it with the Exo. Although yes I am aware that it would be very tricky to implement a custom upgrade tree for a new type of headgear, but perhaps it could recycle the upgrades from the Curtain helmet since the SSP-99 helmet took its place and already has such a module built in to it.

Remember that this new patch is a part of MISERY 2.0? Or are you suggesting that there should be either a MISERY 3.0 or a standalone MISERY game?

I'm assuming that there are at least some MISERY players out there who have at least heard that there is a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game wika out there; but it also has its very own page for the MISERY mod. I have edited on the wikia in the past and when i saw the article i added some of my pearls of wisdom for my preferred class the Assaulter along with a bit here and there. However i lack experience with the other two classes and i was wondering if any of you out there would like to add to the sections for the Recon and Sniper classes along with fleshing out some of the article's other parts.

I believe you misunderstood me; My beef is with the weapon(s) themselves and not the man who made them. I too recognized for a long time that if Mikhail Kalashnikov didn't make the AK series then someone else would have and they might have come up with an even more effective design.

I regard the AK series as a symbol of the Soviet Union, Communism and Terrorism all of which are things I despise. On top of this I am not a fan of the AK's design philosophies and as I said before If things might have turned out differently I might have been shot at with weapons of the AK family making this a tad bit personal for me.

Please realize that I normally don't make posts such as that; at the time I posted my previous comment I was coming down with a very nasty cold that lasted for weeks and it made me quite irritable.

Oh and that "Atom bombs and Automobiles" quote is something I picked up from a novel I once read and no I don't blame Henry Ford for deaths in car accidents.

That man's inventions are quite possibly responsible for more deaths than the Atomic bomb and automobile accidents combined (for now). Including a great many of my fellow Americans who were killed war by people using some sort of derivative of his designs. If things had turned out differently for me and I had successfully joined the US Army then I might have been shot at with some of those same types of weapons!

How about letting the player choose between either an up-armor upgrade or a TOW launcher upgrade? Picking one would disable the other letting the Humvee be either a glass cannon esque tank hunter or a scout/anti-infantry unit that is resilient towards small arms fire.

Also perhaps finding a way to work in a MK 19 grenade launcher upgrade in the future would be interesting.

It is difficult but not impossible to be stealthy in MISERY, using suppressed weapons and the terrain along with any bad weather you might encounter is key. I don't even try to use the knives since my Assault operative isn't optimized for such work as he makes too much noise to get close enough without being noticed.

Any chance we could have armored helmet liners implemented for MISERY in the future? They could function as helmet versions of the steel or kevlar armor plates that are already in the mod; providing a moderate armor boost and most critically a durability boost.

I don't know about the rest of the community but when I played the mod a single armor piercing round (I assume they were AP rounds) would consistently reduce my Sphere-08 helmet's condition by nearly 20% and take away half my Assaulter's health. I don't mind the health loss as I imagine that even while while wearing a helmet that can stop rifle bullets it would still be quite a traumatic event to be shot in the head with a helmet on (it is far better than being instantly killed). However considering how difficult/expensive it can be to obtain decent helmet repair items and how disturbingly often enemies shoot you in the head It would be nice to have a helmet liner that could improve durability and maybe offer some modest additional head protection (at significant expense of course).

On a side note; I often noticed that in addition to the helmet durability drop that there was often an unexplainable drop in my body armor's condition after my character was hit in the head while wearing both body armor and helmet. Is this some sort of a weird glitch or is it as simple as my operative getting hit in the chest and head at the same time in a singe burst?

Of course as of this moment in the real world as far as I know you need a SAPI (Small Arms Protective insert) of some kind in an outer vest to achieve a NIJ Level III protection rating or above. No ballistic vest by itself can stop rifle bullets without either having such an insert or being so heavy and bulky that they severely impair mobility (like a suit of bomb blast armor). Even tactical vests used by SWAT teams which are bulkier and heavier than say a US Army issue IOTV only go up to a Level IIIA rating. Ceramic SAPI inserts can supposedly soak up to as many as six 7.62x39mm FMJ rounds but it needs to be replaced after that many hits.

As I was told by someone more technically adept than me; trying to implement ceramic plates that degrade like this in MISERY would require a large amount of scripting which in turn would further destabilize the already finicky X-Ray engine.

As for helmets; I'm not sure that combat helmets which can stop rifle bullets by them selves exist. I've heard that research has been conducted to develop ceramic helmet liners but I am unsure if this project has born any fruit. Some of the very few types of Titanium combat helmets might be able to do this and possibly the new Enhanced Combat Helmet (ECH)

Good to see there is someone else who uses that class and posts here! Even if I hate the particular word the class uses because it makes me think of street thugs mugging people and not a human wrecking ball toting a belt fed MG while wearing an Exoskeleton (which it should).

Power to the Assaulters!

Hey it took me a VERY LONG TIME to get enough money together to buy an Exoskeleton (since I bought the CS-3a and SKAT-5 suits before this) and even longer for the upgrades I wanted not to mention finding those toolkits (PS; you guys should really move the advanced and calibrations tools farther apart from each other in Yanov) and even then you still need several armor plate inserts and an Eye artifact to get the most bullet protection out of the Exo. Yet it still won't save you from a grenade landing at your feet despite the thing weighing nearly 50 Kg which by the way is significantly more that most Bomb Blast suits which are designed to protect against much more powerful explosions than the comparatively tiny one a grenade gives off (remember that it is the shrapnel they give off that is meant to be the real killer). On top of that there is no Exoskeleton helmet so you have to settle for the SKAT M12 helmet which has some definite weak points especially considering how often enemies aim for your head in MISERY.

However if someone could implement an Exo helmet and find a way to have Nimble only sell the suit plus aforementioned helmet as a package after a certain point in the game's storyline (lets say after the halfway point) without further compromising the mod's at times tenuous stability I would be on board.

Keep in mind that if all else failed it would be theoretically possible to literally manufacture ammo inside the zone. Compared to manufacturing something like an Exoskeleton it would be child's play, not that I'm saying it is easy to do without the right equipment and raw materials. Seriously If you're going to jack up the prices on anything then do it for armor repair services and items but leave the ammo alone.

I this the reason why rounds I've been firing from sniper rifles seem to go all over the place when the target is several hundred meters away even after having all of the accuracy upgrades for my rifle. The M14 DMR and Sako TRG-42 I used had this problem and since I have been using the Assault class I always assumed my operative's less than perfect specialization in the Sniper Rifle weapon's class was the culprit for this not a improperly modified file.

Yay! I was thinking about requesting this sort of feature since I loved being able to cook your own food in Fallout: New Vegas, but now there is no need. However; does this mean that we will be able to find more uninfected chunks of meat from mutants because I don't recall ever finding one when scavenging from mutant corpses.

Well I use the Assault Class which isn't ideal for getting in really close to stab a knife through someones cerebral cortex, so if I want to not attract too much attention its use suppressors or go home.

I too took a more traditional route for dealing with the Mercs at the processing plant (which I discussed on a previous page a couple of months ago but it mostly involved camping out in the North West guard shack and using a ton of AP rounds of various kinds) and I don't even know if it's possible to steal the laptop and escape without sounding the alarm.

It would be nice to have contextually based knife kills like in Metro; Last Light, but I imagine it would be a nightmare to try and code something like that for the X-Ray engine.

It's generally very tricky to get that close without being noticed and even then it's usually more expedient to shoot your target in the head with a suppressed (silenced) weapon.

Keep in mind however that the Assaulter is competent with every weapon class (no weapon rating lower than medium) but specializes with Assault Rifles and Heavy weapons so theoretically there shouldn't be too much of a performance drop when using most weapons outside of the specialized categories.

The only obvious exception I have noted with the Assault class is that sniper rifles can't be used with a high level of accuracy against targets at extremely long range (several hundred yards/meters out) even with maximum accuracy upgrades for the rifles. However that doesn't mean that they are totally useless for this class, just don't expect to be repeatedly scoring head shots from extreme range.

I don't like integrally suppressed weapons, detachable suppressors are much more flexible. I would much rather have the Barrett REC7 with its hard hitting 6.8x43mm SPC rounds.

You have to wait until the "Assemble the Team" Quest for preparing to go through the tunnels that lead to Pripyat. You will receive a "Find a Suit with a closed cycle breathing module" objective, you have to order it from Nimble and it ain't cheap either.

FYI on the SEVA suit's capabilities; It has inferior anomaly protection capabilities to the SSP-99 Environment suit and weighs six Kilos more but it has an NIJ Armor Rating of III for just about every body area and It won't completely cripple your stamina recovery like the SSP does(unless you are a USS Recon Operative). The previous two features combined means that you can actually fight while wearing the SEVA and take some hits and survive, which is more than can be said for the SSP-99 (Remember my story about getting jumped by a Pseudodog while wearing the SSP on the edge of an anomaly field anyone?). There are also a ton of potential upgrades for the suit (including a handy weight reduction upgrade and carry capacity boost) but even with all of the anomaly protection upgrades it still won't equal the SSP-99, particularly in really intense fire anomalies like the boiler to the north of Skadovsk and will fall apart much faster in those conditions.

Could you recycle the upgrade tree for the Sphere M12 helmet but change the values and have a higher installation cost to reflect it being a more advanced helmet?

It would however in all likelihood be a nightmare to come up with a reload animation for the Shambler shotgun considering how complicated it is compared to anything currently in MISERY. As someone mentioned in the previous page they don't want to simply import the existing animations from the game as they are "low quality" and the weapon's reload animation and physical appearance changes depending on how many rounds are in need of reloading.
