Regarding the land battle, I'm sorry but we simply don't know yet. All I can tell you is that we're still making good progress. We're all only working on this in our free time, so there are always times where we are able to work more and times where we can work less. Sorry I can't give you a better answer :)
Right now we're still focusing on finishing the Pegasus Prelude GC and the basic ground skirmish. So no specific plans for the Ori at the moment, sorry.
But in the further future, I'm sure there will be more updates to them as well.
And I think there is also a thing or two that we made, but haven't shown yet. ;-)
Yeah, you just need to restart the game to be able to select another mod.
Alternatively, you can use our launcher to start the mod directly, without having to start the base game first.

a modified fighter locomotor? So is it possible to customize locomotors? Could you point me in the general direction of how to do that?

Currently, we don't provide the open beta builds as a manual download.
What is the launcher trying to update in the loop? A launcher update or a mod update?
Either way, if your launcher version is 1.4.4, then you should try to get it up to 1.4.6, which is the most recent version. Try to delete and re-download the launcher from the downloads section. It should then update to 1.4.6.
In case it keeps downloading a _mod update_ and updating the launcher to 1.4.6 doesn't resolve the loop, you could try to reset the mod in the launcher settings. If that doesn't help, open the mod directory and delete the patches folder, then try again.
(Make sure you have selected the "OpenBeta" user mode in the launcher settings.)
We have said multiple times that it will be a space-only GC. It's even stated in this very article:
"we have been working on a story-driven space-only galactic conquest" :p
So no ground combat yet, sorry :( But we're on it and it's making good progress!
That has nothing to say. Any Star Wars buildings you see are just markers for the positions where the actual buildings will be when the map is launched in-game.

It is only buildable in the aincent sensor on the Atlantis map.
