Am I seeing parallax on those bullet holes? Awesome!

Also, will you get to use those riot shields? I love riot shields! Please let us use those riot shields.

sorry man, i didn't mean it like that. I totally understand your point.

I just watched the matrix trilogy (again) and looked at their choice of extras for the Zion population, and that's what inspired that comment. If that's any excuse or justification.

This is based in 2155, that's about 7 generations from now, maybe 8 in you consider what happens after disasters. Interracial couplings are starting to become more common, so you might want to consider limiting your models to the mixed type to ensure that while individualized, the total population of characters still looks believable to the time, place and history.

I'm just saying that you probably won't find a "totally black african guy" on the west coast a century and a half from now, especially after a nuclear war.

You are hanging onto your specular too tightly. It looks like you are running around with an omni floodlight strapped to your head. Military knives are usually completely matte these days. The bottles and paint buckets have simply too much of it. Again, paint bottles are generally matte. The paintbuckets just need a little less. Unless you are playing as one of those GAP storefront puppets, you definitly need to get rid of the reflection on the skin.

If you pull this off before the end of 2011, I will revere you as gods. period.

I read the GDD. Mighty ambitious. I hope you manage to optimize this so that you can still play OD without a supercomputer.

Also, voted.

"The problem is, placing a light inside a crystal renders the inner-most texture solid. "

I don't know how the source thing does it, but some renderers do the same thing when the inside "texture" is opaque (even if there is no texture, the engine might treat it as one). check if the inside and outside alphas are the same.

it's not blood, it's a strawberry milkshake. lol.

But if it's volunteerwork, it can't be a draft. Drafts don't draft volunteers, they draft draftees. A draft isn't voluntary, hence no volunteers. see what i'm getting at?

If it's a draft, the government is not gonna say "feel free to apply anytime it suits you"

Base it on this: Namsense.com

and make it general (the way you have it now) - not individualspecific (as shown in the form)

plus: they generally don't tell you what the draft is about either.

If you want me to write your draft notice, pm me.

there is something like that in HL2: check out Kleiner's lab. On his desk there's a standing magnifying glass. I don't know how exactly they did it, but checking out that prop's lfx would be a good place to start to achieve something you're talking about.

Were those pics here yesterday? I mite have overlooked them. Anyways, i'm just expressing my first reaction.
But thanks for the clarification. I'll definitely play it and reevaluate my verdict then.

Quote: "And there is no need for gmod, only sv_cheats 1, prop_physics_create props_junk/wood_crate001a.mdl or something like that and there you go."

...

but ok, we'll see when it comes out!

About the crystals: I can see why you might not like them, and i agree: they don't really fit with the rest of the environment. They seem too artificial. What you could try instead of having two layers (an opaque core and translucent shell, it appears) make more (20-60) extremely translucent layers (like 95-99% translucence) and place them closely behind one another. what you should get is an effect that will look like aerogel.

About the caves: the specular is really high for rock, indicating that it's moist, good job. There's also water dripping from the ceiling. Maybe you could add a little more moss or fungus. Also, small puddles in ground crevices may also be a nice touch.

1) download garry's mod 10.
2) steam > gmod > new singleplayer > start game.
3) press and hold 'Q'
4) click props > crate
5) click tools > duplicator
6) release 'Q'
7) right click crate
8) left click a million times.
9) press 1 > ???????
10) PROFIT! (according to mod description)

The AWESOME FEEL is just a nice balance between originality and usability.
You need to allow the player to be on top of the environment, and not have him wonder, "does the game let me interact with this object?", while still retaining dynamic detail and eye-candy throughout. I believe that is the designer aspect to the AWESOME FEEL that any player craves.

I'd be happy to work as level designer once I get the hang of hammer. I already had a couple ideas mapped out on paper, just need to put em into 3d.
