It's not a gauss cannon, its a grav cannon. I also didn't know that at first, doesn't help that the effect looks similar in this picture

I agree completely, not to mention when Russ took it upon himself to try and get Angron to stop with the nails and that went just as well.
Vulkans Tome of fire (actually several tomes)
Yup, you can also tell by the backpacks and helms of the following marines. Crusade/Heresy era backpacks arent rounded around the sides.
It is from the series, the book hasn't been announced yet. Don't remember where I found this or if I had the artists name unfortunately.
Just a heads up for those that haven't heard, Relic is adding the Necron Overlord to last stand on the 10th and it'll be free for the first 5 days.
This is a pre-heresy jump pack, they are a lot bigger than the current form.
It is indeed a grav cannon.
Apparently everyone is actually okay with it, "Despite its typically crude Orkish appearance, the weapon has been restored and blessed by both the Priests of the Adeptus Ministorum and Adeptus Mechanicus"
"A Squat Overlord War Engine goes down in flames, yet the crew remain at their guns, taking down as many Nids as they can before the flames claim them."
I'm basing that off of the screenshots I've seen so far of the gameplay so maybe I'm entirely off on how the regicide mode plays but from looking around at the UI and board, theres cover, melee and ranged attacks, special abilities, attacks do different amounts of damage and have chances to hit and different stats like health and armour for units which can gain xp. On the bigger scale yeah its nothing like xcom, but if I'm not entirely wrong on how the gameplay works, it reminds me of xcom.
I feel like GW missed the opportunity to have a Xcom like 40k game with regicide.
A Sslyth, mercenaries for the Dark Eldar.
Rak Gol, cybernetic reptile space pirates.
Artist didn't have a description and I haven't read a lot of pre-heresy books yet so I'll assume that you know what you're talking about.
It's a commander of a Titan Legio Skitarii force, not sure if they are actually any different but the artist was basing it on a description of The Legio Invicta Skitarii from the book "Titanicus"
"The Invicta Skitarii, a throwback to more savage times, were fearsome beasts, striped and extravagantly marked, their armour built for threat, their genes selected for bulk. Muscular arms gleamed in the odd light. Heavy boots thumped in marching unison. Weapon limbs snapped up to salute as one. Feather plumes, ivory ornaments, leopardskin capes, modified fangs. The skitarii roared at the sky like predators, as fearsome and bestial as the Space Wolves."
It's a fan made chapter based off the pre-heresy Thousand sons.

any idea who he is? He's not a member of the inquisition and he doesn't look like he's part of the guard, so i'm assuming some kind of planetary noble or something?
What a coincidence, I'm reading this book right now.
Artist says that it was commissioned before there was definite info on if the feast was only for the Fists and their successors
Yeah I thought that as well, but this is what the artist titled it so I went with it.
Yeah but tempestus Scions just sounds cooler
