quick update on "1980"

You can read the previous article here.

I made a few updates, most of them are not that important to bring up really, but hey, it now has a score.

One thing that was annoying to deal with was the compatibility between different versions of blood, so I thought of just leaving the maps in their current state and try to start over. Again. A lot of my work is like that, it's not really a bother, but it gets on my nerves and kills the actual process. I think the only map that will be annoying to redo will be the third one (and maybe the one with the temple), both grew out of proportion relatively quickly. Oh well.

Here's why I've decided to start the whole thing over. I wanted to keep modern features to a minimum from the start and I kind of failed... curiosity got the better of me. Anyway, if you feel like playing the build, just know that it's horribly under-cooked. Also there was an update to Raze that broke most of the custom sounds, there is now apparently a different way the files have to be packaged into the zip file (and on top of all the other things, I just don't have the patience to debug that particular problem. So yeah, it's technically MY screw-up but if it wasn't for marrow coming out my filing system would still kind of work), whatever, it's still a good reason for starting over with a clean slate. Again. Here's the score. As for custom sounds, they only work on raze 1.8.1. A few extra warnings before I forget, most of the maps were left to rot for a while and I didn't bother to update any of them. For example, the first episode starts with you falling on a book with a message that doesn't work (because, again, I was too stupid to figure out the fix, I'll take a look at it today, okay? ). Another personal favorite of mine (found it just now), the second map has an annoying invisible wall near the pool where you find the key. Fuck it, just fixed it for this release. See?
That's exactly why I felt the need to start with a clean slate. Too many stupid bugs caused by my own lack of foresight. What else... The second episode has a custom dude that crashes the game IIRC. It's a long story. The second episode mostly contains a garbage heap at the moment, there's only two maps and both of them are extremely under-cooked. Map five from episode one has this really awkward staircase connecting different sections of the level, because the level itself is laughably short.... Most of them are. If you can somehow play through THAT, you should be able to play the maps just fine. The music can loop horribly in some places, but I consider it mostly done. What else? Enjoy? Try to enjoy? I wouldn't recommend enjoyment... at least not with this version of the mod. Anyway, here's the actual thing.

Oh, and if you find any other issues... I'll be happy to tell you that I will NOT be fixing them :)

With THAT out of the way...
Here's a few things I'm planning to add once I'm done being sick:
Make it dos-compatible from the start (hence why I'm starting over).
Optimize the difficulty a bit more to avoid casual players complaining later.
Add more puzzles to break up the flow (too much violence is also not good).
Fix the damn raw files not working and add new player sprites (oh boy).
