Just finished it, and I'm pretty damn impressed.
What I enjoyed the most about this game was the freedom. It has the the same feel of freedom the first Fallout games gave you, where you could say "screw that" to the story and go do your own thing. Another thing I'd like to point out is this game really brings the "roleplay" aspect of RPG out. A good example is what just happened in my last playthrough.
I had just died in the fire caused by the oven and the zombie rapestorm that followed:
1. Replay, and explore the map.
2. Jackpot! On the other side of the map, find a shotgun and tons of ammo to boot.
3. Go back to the wife, finish my objectives
4. I turn on the oven, then make sure to turn it off before I go upstairs.
5. Encounter the looter.
6. He forces me to go upstairs, claims that the wife has been bitten and says he's going to shoot her in three seconds.
7. Looter: Thre-*BLAM*
8. Grab his shotgun. Now I have two.
9. Go out, gather enough supplies to survive for a few weeks, including more wood, nails, and an extra hammer.
10. On my way back, get attacked, chest wounded.
11. Arrive home, wounded. Use a belt to stem the wife's bleeding..
12. Rest, but my injuries are getting worse. Check and realize that I'm fatally wounded.
13. Stash the supplies where the wife can reach them, including a shotgun and some ammo.
14. Barricade the doors behind me, and head to the park (zombie central).
15. Die with dozens of zombies at my feet (like a boss).
In the end, I died as the intro said I would, but I died on my own terms, not at the behest of some forced scripted event. In doing that, I felt like I had accomplished something. Normally, the scripted events get you killed, and the wife is pretty much doomed as well. The way I had done it, I made sure she survived, in a secure area, with enough food, and put a nice dent in the local zombie population to boot.
All of that in the pre-alpha tech demo. I eagerly await the final product. Excellent work.
