We'll work within the confines of the reasonable game. The FOC modding community has tried altering the scale of the game relative to unit and model size, however this is difficult due to the engine being calibrated for specific scales and map sizes.

Keep in mind, we only have models, scripts, and artwork to work with within the confines of the provided SDK. We can't alter the engine.

Oh yeah, news from the Maelstrom mod team, Barcuda found us a modeler! This will help with getting out the land portion in a reasonable time frame.

I respect your position, however;

Paid mods would destroy the idea of modding. It's like the music industry, when it's made for fun, it's creative and passionite. When it's your job, you just focus on the bottom line - making more money the fastest way physically possible. I know for a fact that, as you said, we wouldnt be seeing any Republic at Wars or Thrawns Revenges, we'd have hats for a buck each.

It's also really bad for Valve, in the short term, yeah, mods will generate a good deal of money. But then it's going to slow down. Alot. More people will make fewer mods. We'd also lose the concept of open source which would also be a HUGE detriment to the modding community - without Warb_Null, SWFOC would have basically no community.

tl;dr It's not a good idea.

Space is going to be an issue. It's not like ground where you can really have a focused go-through. Maybe, for example, before you can do the False Emperor flashpoint, you need to defeat Malgus's navy before you can set down your forces. It'll have some commander, or something like that.

You can make them practically invincible.

You'll also be able to jack up the damage and range, so in essence, yeah you could do that.

So this will be like a sensor pod that lets defenders see the entire map? That will really help with actually planning your defenses rather then putting all your forces in one place and hoping your enemy doesent use a fighter shield.

It's possible you downloaded the extra effects pack and your friends didnt, so then it wont let you recognize each other. Make sure everyone has a clean install.

Right now, we're coding and making ideas for units and heroes. We're going to moving towards map making (if bar wants), rigging, and GC scripting. Trust me, the team is as stoked as you guys are for the release.

I deeply respect Jeroenimo for his modding style. I'd rather refined space combat over ground combat - we all know it's a slog on the ground. Either spam the cheese or move two feet a minute with artillery.

However, ground combat I feel could possibly be worked in using assets from other mods which are refined to fit your taste. I recently found Moddb.com which has a fully voiced old-republic themed and era ships/heroes. There was no requirement for permission from the author for utilization in the readme or the moddb page, so it's free game.
