If Dawn is no longer on Edric, where is it? I thought it might be in the "secret chest" in Starfall, but the only chest I can find is hidden in some bushes behind a building, and that chest merely opens my inventory.

I like the idea of actually putting in some work to obtain these legendary items, but the level of obfuscation makes it a frustrating series of swings in the dark.

Just download Morgh's editor. You can make whatever weapon changes you want. I do that to modify weapon settings, since I find them terribly unbalanced here in terms of speed/reach/damage. Not to mention the weight inconsistencies.

Since those houses aren't canon, and come from a third-party spinoff, it's not likely they are on the way. There's enough real content in the books and show that still needs to be worked in.

ACOK has been in development longer, so it's somewhat more stable in my experience. AWOIAF isn't as filled out in terms of some content, but it has a lot of extra features and settings that I appreciate greatly.

I have pretty much stopped playing ACOK. Despite any issues I have with AWOIAF, it just brings more to the table in terms of interactivity and expanded base features.

The eligible Mormont ladies never seem to leave their home, not accompanying Maege to feasts in any instance that I've attended one (and it's been dozens at this point). Is this an intended feature? With so few maidens to pursue in the North, this is a bummer. I'd like to marry into a family that I actually care about, rather than just the random turds who show up to feasts, who are so few and far between anyway. Is there some other way to meet a lady? This is an area that severely lacks. I know that comes from the main game, but still.

Praise the Gods. Trying to find timber was by far the most difficult thing I tried to do.

Are the forums down, or gone? Or is the link just broken? On the new site, the forums link eventually takes you to a "not found" error. It does for me, anyway.

I'm not asking how to fix it. I'm asking why it's still broken.

It's not like I'm whining about sword speeds. I fix that stuff myself. But this isn't subjective. Syrio is objectively broken both in appearance and skills. If it's only like that in my game, then...whatever. Something got corrupted I guess. But if it's like this for others, it needs to be fixed. Every single person who downloads this mod can't be expected to spend hours fixing it in Morgh's and with edit-mode and whatever else just to make it function as intended.

I thought Syrio and Barristan were supposed to be fixed in this new update. I just got Syrio in a new game of 2.51 and he's now bald, with a weird pinched face, and his skills are even more broken than before. He still has 0 in every weapon skill aside from One Handed, but now he also has 0 in Ironflesh, 0 in Power Strike, and has maxed Tracking and Item Management.

What gives?

Why the hate for swords? It seems like in each new version of the mod swords get slower and slower. Bastard swords are so slow and weak that they are functionally useless in the game. Greatswords at least have reach and damage to make up for their incredibly slow speed, but bastard swords are utterly pointless under this design. They are as slow as a greatsword, with none of the damage benefit, and they're slower AND weaker than one-handed swords when wielded as such (because of the decrease that bastard swords suffer when held in one hand).

There are also countless one-handed swords that have been nerfed into oblivion in terms of speed. Most normal swords have gone from speeds of about 95-100 in Warband to speeds of 80 or 85 in this game. The result is that anyone using such a sword is effectively fighting in slow motion. Are you balancing items based on a character with 600 weapon proficiencies, or do you just not want people to use swords?

Seriously?

Why are these swords so randomnly strewn about the game? Ice, which is actually in possession of Ilyn Payne, is found at Winterfell. Yet Blackfyre, which is currently in the possession of no one, is with Dany?

I feel like Produno is punishing the playerbase for daring to question his choices regarding the 2.0 update. Want a cool sword? Kill the hero of the story! Want to kill a villain instead? Too bad, they don't have any items worth getting.

Good karma+1 vote
AceRoccola
AceRoccola - - 32 comments @ A World of Ice and Fire Hotfix 2.2

It certainly doesn't. I'd rather kill Ilyn Payne for it, as he's the one holding the sword until it is reforged. And since that's how we obtain most other interesting items, it's a bummer to miss the opportunity to actually kill someone I WANT to kill (most characters with items that are worth getting are people I actually want to work with, not execute).

But the game's systems and certain mod features force some changes to the story and the world. For example, in this mod, Bronn and Pod never meet Tyrion or go on any of their adventures. Instead they end up wandering from tavern to tavern, waiting for the hero to speak to them. Why? So that they can be recruitable companions. It is what it is.

AceRoccola - - 32 comments @ A World of Ice and Fire Hotfix 2.2

You can get some of the generic blades by speaking to tavern keeps, who will send you to a blacksmith in Qohor. If you have 500 renown, he will sell you a one-handed sword, or a two-handed sword, not both. The generic Valyrian bastard swords don't seem to be obtainable by normal means, despite being in the item list and having unique models and all that.

To get the named swords, you have to kill the person who has one. Otherwise you can find certain swords if you are the lord of the right place, I guess.

Agreed on that count. A constructive discussion is much more worthwhile than an exchange of insults.

Sadly, the mod author seems more than happy to insult those who post a negative comments about this new "feature". And if you read the comments back to their original posts, a lot of these stupid insult exchanges begin with Produno berating or insulting someone for a comment that dares to question the necessity of removing the finditem menu. Maybe if he wasn't so eager to insult and argue with people for expressing their opinion about his mod, the comment section here wouldn't be so ugly.

You act like these are mutually exclusive. If my house didn't have a bathroom, it wouldn't be a functional house. That doesn't mean I hate everything else in the house. It just means I need, like all other humans, to use the bathroom now and again.

All of these features you mention are great. All of the feedback you have incorporated into new and existing features (e.g. killing a lord) has been extremely welcome. But none of that has anything to do with this. This is a separate thing. It's an existing feature of the vanilla game that people have gotten used to having. Not just because we like to "ruin" the game by grabbing up all the most powerful items at the beginning, but because it has a wide range of useful functions - especially for those like me, and many others who have posted here, that use it for modding and editing. Rather than come here and complain about the small things, we customize the game so that we can appreciate all of the stuff that we DO love about the mod. By removing this feature, you're hampering our ability to do that. Now we are relegated to coming here to complain, or playing old versions of the mod.

You probably aren't going to change your mind on this, especially given that this negative response seems to have just cemented your stance. The spite and indignance apparent in your comments are palpable. But we're not going to stop offering our opinions on it, either. If you can't handle that, then delete your mod page and stop offering AWOIAF to the public.

That's a bummer. I've played hundreds upon hundreds of hours of Warband and its various mods. This is easily one of the best modifications available. And this is just an impediment to enjoying it. Having access to itemfinder takes the sting out of having to start a new game and lose all progress every time a mod is updated.

Warband is a great game, but the loot/merchant system is terrible. Sure, I can cheat some money and go to the merchants. But I don't want to have to camp for 300+ days just to find the sword and armor I'm looking for. Especially when I've reached the point at which I'm running my own kingdom/fighting six wars. Hell, you still have to pay for the items you grab out of itemfinder. As lord of a castle or a town, shouldn't I be able to commission some armor, or a sword for a fair price?

I realize an item "forging"/requesting feature would take some work, if it were even possible. I'm not asking for a big new feature. Which is why I like having the full range of the game's existing features available, cheats debugs and all. As a modder, I would think you could understand that. I also, like many others, mod and customize the playthroughs I'm on for personal use. I really dislike the idea of this mod boxing out the player so we no longer have control on our side. Removing itemfinder is an impediment to anyone who mods their own game. I use Morgh's editor to tweak and balance mods, including this one. Having access to itemfinder makes that process infinitely easier. I'd much rather edit my own game in peace than be relegated to coming here and whining ineffectually about how I want the items to be balanced.

I know you're gonna do what you want with your mod, and I'm sure you already thought this through, but I had to throw in my two cents. This really dampens my enthusiasm for an update that until this moment had me reaching towards my wallet for donations.

How does one go about obtaining the Valyrian Steel bastard swords? I was able to find the blacksmith in Qohor who sells you the one- and two-handed Valyrian swords and raise my renown enough to buy one. But he doesn't seem to offer the bastard swords. Are the three bastard swords not available yet in-game? Or do I have to get to them through another quest or merchant? I've looked around the web and the wiki and haven't found any info on this.

Thanks.

First, excellent mod. Looks and feels like Westeros. The armor and weapon designs are perfect, and there is a lot of depth to the world. Plus it uses a lot of the upgrades from Brytenwalda/Viking Conquest that "that other GoT mod" doesn't. Anyway, I have a question about one of the features.

Is the practice duel function working? Whenever I go to a troop within my party and select the practice duel, they agree and it takes me to the screen where it says "press TAB to start the duel" or something like that. Except pressing TAB does nothing, and left-clicking the mouse simply ends the conversation.

How do you do a practice duel?

AceRoccola - - 32 comments @ Brytenwalda 1.40 Special Edition

I'm running the latest version (1.40) with Warband 1.153 and it was great for a bit. Suddenly, all of the descriptions of villages/castles/etc. have gone weird. Instead of the explanatory text about the village (normally ending with: your religion is hated here, etc.) I get really weird information that was clearly not meant to be seen. For example, the description of the village of Ard Macha:

"near Ego
no relation
Fortriu"

moments later, upon returning to the same village it had changed to:

"near Rhaeadre Gwy
no relation
Gwynedd"

At another time it seemed to contain a snippet of dialogue from an Arl saying that he was waiting for troops.

I've tried starting a new game and it still gives me this weird buggy text. Rarely I will get a semi-normal description when entering a town but it's usually this stuff.

I played in Native and other modules and everything is fine there, descriptions aren't bugged. Anyone have an idea what is going on here or experience it before? It's strange that it was working fine previously. Much thanks in advance.

Come on. There hasn't been so much as a word on the status of the update for...8 months? I know modding on this scale isn't easy, but the release is already here. All we need is for them to update the thing in order to make it actually playable.

I'm not suggesting that the patch should have been out within a week of release. But considering the following this thing has, it would be nice to at least get some updates on the site for people who want to know if the thing is even still happening. I also don't think it's unreasonable for people to assume that the mod has died after 8 months of inactivity. As we know well, it happens all too often.

tl;dr...boo hoo modding is tough.

Really interested in checking out this mod, but since installed it I can't get the game to stay up for more than a few seconds. It just minimizes itself after being up for like 3 seconds, and when I bring it back up it goes right back after 3 seconds. So I can't exactly...do anything at all. This was a clean install with only the latest version of this mod running. Anyone else run into this/know how to solve it?

I can confirm that both the renderers and ENBseries work with the Steam version of the game. Though as far as I can tell, ENBseries only works with the dx9 renderer.

Haven't implemented the other two yet.

Anyways, excellent tutorial. Timely, as well, since I just today figured I'd get back to taking another stab at Deus Ex and found myself on the moddb. Also looking forward to giving TNM a try, it's been on my watch-list for a while. Cheers.
