On May 6th we had given our community the task to design an original and interesting ending for the upcoming game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The rules were simple, create an image featuring Geralt and/or Triss and integrate them into a famous moment in history. We received an outstanding 421 entries for the comp over a span of 10 days, and considering the prize who can blame them.
For the winner of this competition we have one 
kick-ass Alienware M11x laptop to give away (prize tab for full details). This laptop is nothing short of a beast and will allow you to dominate The Witcher 2 all day long without breaking a sweat.

Wasn't expecting this line up at all, I thought that the best/most humorous alt. ending would win, not just the funniest picture.

Eheh really nice ones I gotta agree, I'm a bit disappointed that the winner was chosen even tough his submission didn't respect the guidelines about using a historical event.
I guess I'm just jealous, but I would have been really ****** if I was second place with something that actually respected the rules.
This is what happens when people start to enjoy reference comedy way too much.
I too expected the rules to be followed by the judges, most of us went to great lengths to abide by them and now we got bit in the ***, because we did what.
It's a bit unfair, cause there really were a lot of great entries, much better than the ones chosen, hell the bomber one by me is one of my worse ones too.
I expected this, I knew that it would all be the "funniest picture according to me and him wins", but I expected the rules to be followed...

I had a feeling the Sony hacker one would win. It was just a great idea, and of high quality too. They said a famous moment in history, whether that be sports, video games, military, nations fighting other nations, dictators taking control of the world, paintings from the renaissance, biblical sights, they are all historical in some way or another, and the winners were famous moments in history, even though recent.
In my opinion the bomber one made me lol the most, even though it is such an easy one to make. I'm definately surprised that Leon_kilean's printing press one didn't make it into the runners up. Maybe it was too confusing.
I didn't think the Geralt bit me would get second place either.
Anyways, good job to everyone and it was fun seeing everyone's submissions.

I've no words for these choices, really. "Cheated" can't express the way I feel, not only for myself but many others too.
The results just prove that hard work, creativity and abiding by the rules won't get you anywhere these days. Famous moment in history? The psn hack? Really? Geralt bit a baby's finger, historical event? Not to mention the poor integration it has, Geralt's white skin vs the baby's skin...
Nevermind, I wasted so much of my time and now I'm wasting my words.

I also want add that there were entries (and I'm not talking about my own ones) that showed that a lot of work and thought went into them and that were true to the rules. I honestly think those would have been more deserving than the depiction of an event no one will remember 50 years from now.
Have to agree here. The PSN Hack may be something that interests gamers in 2011, but I doubt anyone will be talking about it in like 5 years, therefore it doesn't qualify as historical moment (not even in gaming history) at all. What about a downtime in *PUTNAMEHERE* MMORPG?
I'm sad for those who really thought about the task and picked historical moments where Geralt/Triss may fit in.
The thing with the baby just makes me think: Funny pic, but historical moment? WTF?
The winner the psn hack is in my opinion the right choice. He did an excellent job and I did expect this 1 to win. However Im not so sure about Geralt biting a child in the finger is in any way a famous moment in history. I have never seen this kid before. (from the rules quote: "Your entry must involve a famous moment in history ")
All the other images are somehow related to a famous moment (3rd place Vietnam war, and runners up are all known to me as famous moments in history. All of these moments had an impact on the world, yes even Zidana headbut from soccer)

Ok, I loved all the submissions but I have to say, I dispute this to the enth degree. Humor was in oodles in all these posts, and I hardly find these ones original or funny. Serves me right for following the guidelines. Hell the runner up Hitler one was just, static. Was my Hitler one so OFFENSIVE that it couldn't even beat a static image for runner up?????? No offense to the guy who posted, but I put a lot of hard work and comic timing to at least get a "Hey, funny stuff, great job!" Call me a spoilsport all you like, I think this contest was ********, the rules were ********, and I call for everyone to DISPUTE this and ask for a more detailed reason why these won. We ALL read the guidelines and know what was asked of us. I say something is amiss.

No offense but those "winner" images are rubbish themselves and most aren't historical.
It was a rubbish competition but I felt like being creative and thus I took part in it just for fun despite not being a proper fan of The Witcher.
People got their hopes up for this contest and put much work into it and followed the rules but they still lost. That's just how it is then.
Other people got their hopes up and put time and care into their creations but them losing is just how competitions are sometimes; biased. Want to win something fair? Enter a competition where the community votes.
As for me. It was fun and was just for fun. So enjoy the images.

I could guess that the Judges, who were only supposed to be Dave, Scott and Ben, must have thought my stuff was offensive, but what about everyone else? I'm sorry, but what was funny about the PSN one? I hear you all saying it deserved it, but I'm 100% positive there were others that were put together better, with DETAILED description, and the picture basically told the story itself. I do not think I will ever do another contest here, as much as I love MODDB, nor will I come here that often anymore. Yeah, they broke my heart. snif.

Personally I loved the Soccer one, that one scared me cause it was simple yet VERY effective, and the comic strip was priceless, if you ask me those should have been top tier
Actually the laptop will sweat with Witcher 2. My HD6970 breaks a lot of sweat at all settings maxed out at 1920x1080, breaks 30fps too sometimes.
The zidane one was totally unoriginal, it's been done a million times in the past 5 years, I've no idea why they chose it. I can't say if the comic strip was worth it, but it's definitely original and a nice entry.
Anyway, I think I've said what was to be said about this competition, it proved to be a TOTAL FAILURE.

NO, I do not feel like punching them in the face. Just not happy with their judgement. If had just been the three MODDB judges things may have looked different, but CD Projekt Red also had input and so there you have it.

I was going to make the same as Pseudo_Dave, but I had to study and when I was about to write up this in my ideas notepad he had already posted the image. Damn nice work to every of you guys, I personally loved ChrissRaven's idea more than the others, but well i'm not a judge XD
I really think the geralt but my finger was the best because not only did it follow all the rules and guidelines I also laughed, crapped myself and had nightmares, but seriously, good work...even then personally I hated the witcher, felt too linear :P
