Not to mention many of the staff working on DOW3 are young millennials who never had any real interest in 40k. Some of them bought miniatures (or more likely found their older sibling's collection) but never finished painting them and left them to collect dust. Typical "streamlining" (aka dumb down) to appeal to mainstream masses just like they did with Star Trek, Star Wars, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc.

to assume that they're millennials and that is the reason that the game isn't 40k as such is quite a sweeping statement. I'm a millennial and i'm not too pleased with it either. It doesn't feel like Dawn of War to me and there are several things that i would do differently. But to immediately blame a specific group of people is a bit stupid.

I like it, feels new. I disagree with it being a MOBA or even playing like one.

1. You control more than 1 unit UNLIKE a MOBA
2. There is base building UNLIKE a MOBA
3. There are no skills to upgrade ingame UNLIKE a MOBA
4. There are no items that can be bought & sold through a shop to enhance your units UNLIKE a MOBA
5. There is no announcer saying crap like "GODLIKE" UNLIKE a MOBA
6. There are no neutral creeps UNLIKE a MOBA
7. You don't get gold/resources from killing enemies UNLIKE a MOBA

The only thing it borrows from MOBA's are the towers and ancient concept, good for Relic trying to innovate. The RTS genre needs to innovate, we can't rely on mechanics from 10 years ago to attract new blood into the genre. Look at the reception of recent RTS games like Grey Goo and Ashes of The Singularity. Same gameplay from 10 years back but shinier graphics doesn't translate into good sales or a large thriving community. Even Starcraft II, the juggernaut of the RTS genre has faded into obscurity. Replaced by Dota 2 in competitions while shooters like CS:GO are making a comeback in the competitive scene but why hasn't the RTS genre made a comeback in the competitive scene?

If you want something familiar play DoW and any of it's expansions, don't like it? Play DoW II and any of it's expansions. Don't like DoW III? Good for you, Relic hasn't removed DoW I and DoW II from you Steam library so you can always play that.

I've been playing DoW III since it was in closed beta, at first I had my doubts but after spending more time with it I can say that the gameplay is more fast compared to the previous games in the series but just as fun. Commanding units feel more responsive and battles are larger like the first DoW but still have some depth like the smaller scale battles of DoW II.

Dawn of War III aint perfect, the default game mode could use some tweaking to prevent it from feeling like a 1 sided push, they removed the old cover system and it could use more game modes. But it is a breath of fresh air for the RTS genre and a worthy addition to the franchise.

i don't hate mobas or do i hate games that try to be moba like its just something that was tried to hard in dow3 and was probably not needed to be added in the first place on top of dow3 being a boring shallow gameplay experience (at lest for me) and just to counter some of what you put.
1&2. some of the dota 1 (war craft 3) versions I've played did have base building and give you control over a group. in dow3 you take control of both the AI made army and hero.
3. its probably still on the table to be added as so far heroes are just but most likely made them so powerful having an army would end up useless.
4. just like with 3 it would make heroes to powerful.
5. don't speak to soon there is still a chance for.
6. something like that inset needed for it to be a moba or moba like. 7. that's what the points around the map are for but something like gp for kill may still be added but would make a steamrolling affect

0- The game looks right now exactly as it looked in the Pre-Alpha footages on Youtube. The "Pre-Alpha" label was just a sham: they only changed some underlying features, that's all.
1- It's all about the 3 Elites you choose: and they cost NO resources to re-deploy after they're dead. You just have to wait for their cooldown.
2- The controls are clunky, units are unresponsive, the UI is very, very, very poorly designed and generally painful to look at.
3- The icons are tiny & NOT CLEAR AT ALL, despite Philip Boulle's propaganda about "Clarity" & whatnot.
3- Everything dies super fast, most Elites can inta-kill full squads with one or two abilities, it's all about outnumbering your enemy, or hard-countering their units. The squad versatility/adaptability from previous DOW games is GONE.
4- Animations are super sped-up, unprofessional & very exaggerated.
5- There is ABSOLUTELY no soundtrack, just a single depressing atmospheric ambient stream of string/synth. The game feels dead silent, barring the Orks' Waaagh guitar play.
6- The story is all over the place, & easily forgettable. In fact, NO ONE would bother with the campaign if not for the skulls/Elite unlocks.
7-There are no cinematics: only a slideshow of static CG renders.
8- Very poor optimization: the DOW3 system requirements are actually higher than advertised. There are also many, many overlooked/unfixed system bugs. For example: the game will often default to low texture quality, and will NOT let you save changes in graphic options. This issue is acknowledged by the Devs, but they have yet to FULLY fix it.
9- Doctrine lists display incorrectly on replays. This is another persistent issue.
10- The new Relic staff/playtesters do not seem to understand the meaning of "Balance". Eldar have "Protoss shields" JUST BECAUSE, Macha has a passive ability to NOT DIE when killed, the Eldtritch Storm Nuke is unescapable and follows your fleeing vehicles until they explode, Ronahn can shoot squads from halfway across the galaxy, Rangers can destroy listening posts from downtown despite them being anti-infantry soft counters. Space marine plasma guns will overheat quickly and the squad will stop shooting for ages, flamers do not shoot: they must be shot manually, in a static cone, via an ability.
I will stop here. The list of unfixed aberrations is too long. Anyone who played them game should know that it could have been more polished. Hopefully they get their act together & stop dilly-dallying because, taking this long to address persistent issues after post-beta release is unacceptable for a AAA staple franchise.

playing dow3 is like going out to eat at a place you have been going to for years only to lirn the new owners can't cook for shit and it gave you food poisoning. i think relic knows its not what people wanted and i think its sega trying to make a few quick $ off us. the 40k skin is nothing more then that and with out it its just a bland under made half moba half rts. also i feel the pic fits how i feel. sad and sick
