Even space marines are gearing up to kill space marines.
They have been doing that for over a thousand years now.
over ten thousand years in fact, with the Space Wolves being the first.
Khe-khe... among the first... khe-khe.
World Eaters were killing the last Thunder Warriors before it became a mainstream.
the War Hounds didn't exactly "gear up" as much as go in there and smash them to bits, but they do deserve some extra credit for that. weren't the Thunder Warriors tougher than Marines?
Thunder Warriors were more powerful physically but less stable and degraded over time.
They indeed were much more powerful than Marines. But less stable? Heh, they "suddenly" became less stable just after the end of the Unification Wars. That was an intentional flaw. They were never intended to leave Terra for the Great Crusade.
