As far as I know, there are lots of them in Russian military reserve and they were deployed during the first and second Chechenian conflicts and the 8 day war in August of 2011 . Some Middle-Eastern countries use it as well.Mostly upgraded versions.

The Slovakian army still has some of these tanks in service.
The Czech army withdrew from service in 2001.

I don't know where did you take that date, but as far as I know, they are out of service for much longer. We use T72 for a long time with some modifications. Maybe there were some T55A in reserves to 2001, but not in operational use.

Description

Czechoslovakian upgrade for the T-55A.
Including: reinforced armour, new V-55U engine with 620 hp, new ballistic computers, R-173P radio system and the abillity to fire 9M117 "Bastion" ATGMs via the main gun.
