I'm always a fan of M-41 variants, but I hadn't heard of this one. It seems like a good idea for a budget tank, too bad it didn't succeed.

Description

Brazilian MBT prototype based on a M41 hull. This being one of the later prototypes of the series, was armed with a Bernardini 90mm gun that could fire locally-developed APFSDS-T rounds (the 11th prototype used a 105mm instead). A 12.7mm M2HB was mounted coaxially with the main gun, and a 7.62mm machinegun was mounted on the roof. The tank used a bank of 4 electrically-operated smoke grenade launchers on each side. The FCS includes a ballistics computer, night sights for the commander and gunner, as well as a laser rangefinder for each of them. Some areas of the tank used spaced armor. The tank weighed 30 tons when combat-ready, and the engine developed 500 hp at 2100 rpm, giving the Tamoyo a low for the time power-to-weight ratio at 16.6 hp/t. A Detroit Diesel engine developing 736 hp was also considered, as well as the possibility of increasing the output of the original engine. The transmission remained unchanged from the M41.
