For people and teams developing mods and games with Valve's Source engine.
Comparison of the armor room from the first level of Doom (e1m1: The Hangar) and my rebuild. I'm trying to capture the feel of the original as closely as possible while still updating the map to take advantage of the Source Engine. I'm rebuilding the original Doom map as my mapping tutorial. I haven't done any mapping for around 10 years, so I'm pretty much starting from scratch.
i dont know doom version is textured right and looks better than yours :D unnles you want to add other textures.... :D
Good for a start but the lighting in Source looks pretty bleh for a game like Doom. Try something diffrent in the next build.
Yeah, I'm still working on the lighting, I just went with minimal light during the building process, but now that I've got the whole thing more or less done I can work on some better lighting. I'm tempted to get Garry's Mod because they've got a Doom 2 texture package. I'll post up a different room once I get closer to a finished product.
Well I look forward to it.
Add other textures to HL2
someone should really do a decent HD remix or something of Doom 1&2. The doomsday engine port is pretty sweet also...but more do a something more contemporary that looks good, keeps it true to the original, and does kill the gfx card when you run it!
I think, legally speaking, you could only really get away with redoing the first (shareware) episode. It's been done for the Doom 3 engine, and looks great, but I have yet to see it done for Source.
